After being in the hospital for three days, Jack finally woke up. His family is very relieved that he pulled through.
Once news of Jack waking up he has a steady string of friends, classmates, teammates, teachers and other faculty come to visit him in a period of two days.
They all expressed their happiness that he pulled through and their concern about his health due to the accident. Also a visit from his grandparents, and other extended family members.
Thankfully he is going to be ok, it's just going to be a long road to recovery. Hopefully, he will be fully recovered by graduation.
Jackie had come and visited him every day, but she stayed back letting everyone else have their moment with the popular boy. By the time the last guest left it's well after ten pm and Jackie had to go home to get ready for school.
It's Friday and Jackie is on her way to the hospital to visit Jack. After talking to Kathleen about Jack's progress, she had gone to her equestrian practice before heading to the hospital. Once she arrived she waited in the waiting room since they took Jack to take more x-rays to check on his ribs since they discovered that one was broken.
She is awakened from her nap in the waiting room by a nurse when Jack has returned from taking x-rays.
She stretches and yawns before making her way towards Jack's room. Thankfully today there wasn't anyone expected for a visit and his immediate family had already come up to see him.
Jack looks over at the door when he notices that someone is coming in. He looks over and smiles.
"Hey," he says his voice raspy.
"Hey," she replies softly.
He looks at her he thinks she's the most beautiful girl in the world.
"Thanks for coming back to see me," he croaks out. His voice not back to its normal tone due to having a breathing tube down his throat.
"You're welcome. How are you?"
"I'm ok, just in a little pain."
Silence.
"You can come closer," Jack says breaking the brief silence. She comes to the side of the bed.
"Jackie I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said what I said. I'm just so scared and being selfish..."
"Jack, I don't want to talk about it right now," Jackie cuts him off.
"When Jackie? If not now, when? I don't know how many times I can apologize. I realized that I really do love you. I'm gonna be a man and take care of my baby. Throughout my life I never dealt with my problems, my father always fixed them for me. Now you're about to make me a father, there is no running away this time. I need to grow up and take responsibility. I hope that I'll be a better father than my own."
"Jack, you don't love me!"
"I do Jackie, the way I feel about you I've never thought I would feel this way ever. You're different than any other girl I met. You're intelligent, beautiful, sophisticated, pure class. I love the way you talk, how gentle you are, you're shyness, you're kind nature."
Jackie blushes, and he smiles at her.
"I do love you Jacqueline Bouvier, and if I have to I'll spend the rest of my life proving it to you," Jack says.
"I don't really know what to say, Jack. You really hurt me. You made me feel like I purposely got pregnant just to make your stay with me. Like I was trying to rob you of your future."
"I know and I'm sorry, I was being selfish...I wasn't thinking about how this affects you and how your life is going to change. If anything this is all my fault. I shouldn't have pressured you. You weren't ready... I'm really sorry."
"I forgive you Jack, but I'm not sure whether we should be together? I need more time right now to think things over."
"I understand."
"I have my first appointment next week on Tuesday; the doctor is going to do an ultrasound to see how far along I am and give me a due date."
"Good, I wish I could be there."
"Its ok Jack," she replies her voice cracking.
"Jackie, what's wrong?"
Jackie doesn't reply but begins to cry.
"Jackie, why are you crying?" Jack asks confused. She tries to gather herself before speaking.
Jack, I was so scared that I was going to lose you. I can't help but feel like this is all my fault," she says before crying again.
Jack feels his heartbreak.
"Jackie it's not your fault, none of this is."
"I can't help but feel like it. If I wasn't pregnant, then you and your father wouldn't have fought and you wouldn't have left and got into that accident..."
"Jackie, stop!" he yells.
She looks at him and couldn't help but feel slightly turned on.
"It's not your fault sweetheart. I had to stand up to my father. He wanted to get our baby aborted, not because of our future but for Joe. I don't care what my father says, we'll work this out."
"Ok," Jackie sniffles.
"Please Jackie don't cry anymore, none of this is your fault."
"Ok."
A few hours later Jackie is getting ready to leave.
"I'll come back and see you tomorrow Jack," Jackie says looking into his eyes.
"Ok," he replies as he watches her get up from lying beside him.
He doesn't want her to leave, he likes how it felt with her lying close to him. Thankfully the hospital bed is big enough for both of them.
"Jackie," Jack calls out as she walks towards the door.
"Yes."
"Would it be too much to ask for a kiss goodnight?"
She looks at him and walks back to the bed. She gives him a kiss on the cheek.
"I was hoping for a kiss on the lips," he says.
She sighs and gives him a quick peck. "Good night Jack."
"Good night Jackie," he replies as he watches her leave.
