It's been a few weeks since that night at the hotel with Jack. Thankfully he hasn't dumped her, like some of her friends have experienced after sleeping with their so-called boyfriends.
Yet she hasn't been feeling like herself lately. She doesn't feel sick, but she just felt weird. There was no clear way of explaining how she felt she just knew that she wasn't herself. Especially considering the other morning's episode when she ran into the bathroom spilling her guts. She just chalked to a slight stomach virus.
Still, she didn't feel like herself. Plus she noticed that her breasts are feeling tender. Again she just though it was a sign of PMS. But now she's over a week late and doesn't know what to do.
After doing some research on her symptoms she is hoping that she wasn't what the results were saying. Going to her mother was out of the question afraid of how her mother may react if she is pregnant.
She doesn't want to tell her parents that she slept with Jack. Sex is a subject that parents in her social class didn't really talk about with their children. It's a subject that she would learn about in her Sex Ed class.
Thankfully Tucky is coming to visit and she told her that she was going to get a test for her.
—————
Jackie stayed in her room all day after Tucky left, scared, frightened, not knowing what to do. She took the test and it confirmed that she is pregnant with Jack's baby.
I'm pregnant with Jack's baby, she keeps thinking over and over again.
She knew she had to tell him. Hopefully, he would know what to do. She only hoped that he would keep his word as he said before.
There was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" Jackie says lifting her face off her pillow.
"It's me Jacks," Lee says on another side.
"Come in," Jackie replies.
Lee walks in, "what's going with you? You've been locked in your room like a prisoner all day?"
"Nothing I'm just really upset."
Lee looks at her sister and knows something is wrong.
"What's wrong?" Jackie looks at her little sister and is iffy if she should tell her about her life-changing secret. Lee is only a year younger and wouldn't be able to help much with what's about to happen, let alone offer any type of advice.
Still, Lee is the only person she could confide in other than Tucky. Tucky lives a half-hour away and with their after school schedules between tennis and horse lessons they couldn't really keep in touch.
"Jacks are you in trouble?" Lee asks concerned.
Jackie looks at her sister and sighs.
"Lee what I'm about to tell you, cannot leave this room. I swear, if you tell mummy and daddy I'll run you over with Danseuse."
"Unless you committed a murder, of course, I wouldn't tell them. Jackie, we're sisters. You know I wouldn't dime you out. Besides I never told them about you and Jack staying at the hotel or that time you burnt a hole in mummy's Hermès couch smoking with Tucky."
"I know Lee, but this is much serious than that."
"What could be more serious than that?"
"I'm pregnant!" Jackie exclaims quietly.
Lee looks at her sister and starts laughing. She laughs so hard that tears are running down her cheek.
"Lee I'm serious," Jackie says taking the Clear Blue out of her nightstand. Lee calms down and takes the test that reads positive. Lee's face looks like she's seen a ghost.
