Chapter 3 - No More Dream

Red velvet's ice cream cake blasted through the speakers of my phone which made me blink away from my trance. I looked down on my desk, and there, was blank peace of paper. I let go of my pen and answered the call.

"Break?" I asked as soon as I picked up the phone

"Why, good afternoon to you too." I hear her laugh

"What are you on? It's still mor--" I stopped what I was gonna say and my eyes bulged from their sockets when my eyes scanned the clock striking 12:15.

"Too busy working that you can't take notice of the time? You must be working on something big for this month's issue. Who are you covering?"

"Yeaaah I was so busy I didn't notice the time." Busy staring at nothing! I can't believe I was so out of it for two hours! Two effin hours!

"Do I hear sarcasm?" I could practically see her squinting on the other side of the phone

"Uh-oh. I know you're busy, with being rising stars and all but you shouldn't forget to clean your ears." She laughed and I laughed with her

"Is that jennie unnie?!" I hear the maknae asking in the back

"Yeah. Let me put it on speaker."

"Jennie yah! We missed you! "

"I miss you guys too"

"Then come back! It's not too late. Uhng~?" Joy has always been clingy to me

"True! Come back jennie-yah. I was just added to the group, I'm sure it'll be ok to add at least one more since its you." I hear joy and yeri's yelp

"How 'bout you two work on the dance steps." I hear seulgi dragging the two away

"So sorry! We'll --"

"It's ok Wendy . They didn't know and it'll be better to stay that way."

"But they're right Jennie. You can still come back to us. We just introduced yeri as an additional member." Irene sighed

"And what? Drag you down with me? You know that's impossible Irene."

"No it's not! It was our dream! Your dream! You are supposed to be in my place. You were supposed to be our leader!" I heaved a sigh

"It's ok. I've forgotten about that dream already."

"Bullsh--" I cut her off

"Really. I'm happy with my job now and besides, you make a perfect leader." I'm sorry Irene.

"Whatever." I hear Irene standing up and walked away stomping, letting me know she's pissed

"You do know where she's coming from. You two were inseparable." I gulped and looked up to avoid crying.

"We saw him." I know who she's talking about. And my breath got caught in my throat

"Irene almost charged at him"

"WHAT?!" I yelled making taehyun jump in his cubicle

"I said ALMOST. Seulgi was able to stop her before making us on top of search engines being tagged as scandalous rookies." A shaky sigh left my lips and a hand to my heart

"You can't do anything reckless. He doesn't know." I hear wendy snort

"Of course he doesn't. We heard he was surprised that we only introduced yeri as an additional member. He thought you'd be introduced late like yeri"

"In any way, you must not tell him the real reason. Just tell him I didn't make the cut if he asks."

"You were supposed to be the leader. He knows that. You really think he'd believe that reason? He writes and compose hit songs. Your boyfriend's typically a genius."

"EX. Ex-boyfriend. Just make up any lie" l hear someone arriving on the other line

"Don't you think.."

"No."

"I haven't even finished my sentence yet."

"I know what you're gonna say seulgi. And no, he does not deserve to know."

"Because?"

"What other reason is there? He left me in that state." My voice shook

"I don't know. Are you sure it's not because you're protecting him. When it all goes out, you know it could ruin his career."

"I... I--"

"Save it! Haven't you already sacrificed yours? Why can't he?! And don't give me the bullshit that you've already forgotten about this dream because among any of us, we know you were the one who wanted this from the day you were born." Seulgi disconnected the call.

It's official. This day's cursed. I wouldn't be surprised if something worse will happen.

I slumped on my chair and cleaned my crying face seeing taehyun getting ready for lunch.
