It has been recorded that many outbreaks of the yellow fever from 1668 to 1853 occurred in the U.S.
The first outbreak started in New York of 1668. Alfred was still a child, living in Arthur's house alone.
Arthur was away on a business trip, so Alfred was left to deal with the outbreak on his own.
That's why Matthieu would sneak over to Arthur's house to help his brother deal with the Yellow Fever.
