While the Berlin Wall was built, Ludwig and Gilbert were separated. At night they would stand as close as they could to each other on their respective sides of the wall, playing various duets (Ludwig on Cello, Gilbert on violin/viola).
As they could not communicate through words, they did it through music. Often they would play Mozart, (Symphony No. 40) and Chopin's Spring Waltz. Once, they even played Rimsey-Korsakov's 'Flight of the Bumblebee'.
