(Semi My headcanon)
Since he is considered a 'dead country', he no longer had a heart beat and freaks the other nations out with it.
There have been multiple occasions where Gilbert has 'dropped dead' and held his breath to have everyone like "oh my god, do something!" And Ludwig crying, only to have Gilbert pop up and go 'I'm stILL ALIVE BITCHES' and Ludwig punches him square in the jaw.
