Albus stood pacing his office, which of course he frequently did but this time his steps were pointed and direct. He wasn't thinking like he normally did but instead he was impatiently waiting for Poppy to visit him. 'She kicked me out for a reason.' His thoughts were never ending as fear sketched its way up his entire spine like a fine artist. 'Alice.' His thoughts echoed of the girl with soft silver hair that flowed freely. His thoughts were immediately taken to that night. Voldemort was gaining power and followers as everyday passed, and so he stupidly drank far too much. He wasn't even interested in females which was why Minerva reacted so surprised when he admitted that he had gotten one pregnant. Her voice soon filled his head as she told him that she was so exceedingly pleased for him. He was glad of the chance to have a child but terrified of the life that they would have with a man as awful as Voldemort on the rise. His mind raced with guilt at bringing such an innocent child into the world that was so filled with hate and disgust. His half moon glasses rested on his nose as he peered across the room. His hand was waved and everything was organised and put into the right place that it needed to be in.
His thoughts were interrupted by his door being opened. In his deep contemplation he hadn't even noticed that someone had approached. "Poppy sent a patronus, she admitted that there is both good and bad news. I don't know what happened." Pomona was worried and it was written all over her features. He nodded and without a word they walked to the infirmary. The door was opened gently as the pair arrived. They were greeted by a pulled curtain and complete silence which caused a wave of nerves to wash over them both. A deep voice spoke "thank you Pomona, I shall take it from here." She left with a worried glance over her shoulder. Poppy had pulled herself from behind the curtain followed by two specialists from St Mungo's. "Albus, a baby girl was born. A girl with stunning silver and grey hair. Just like her mother but blue eyes like her father." Albus looked at the woman with a raised brow. It was obvious that she had shed a tear but wiped it away. "Alice, she was too old. I am sorry." His nod was slow and he pondered her words. "I assume that was the bad news. What was the good?" He couldn't even think about losing the baby but still his thoughts wondered to it. His usual kind demeanour was still evident but his mind was fried from the lack of sleep. "She is alive and well. Just tired." His nod was still calm. The two healers went behind the curtain and pulled out a piece of fabric. Albus was beyond confused until he realised that it wasn't just fabric but also the body of Alice. He smiled a painful smile as they left. "I shall take..." Poppy cut him off with the wave of her hand. "I will care for her tonight. You sleep and start doing normal human things. Like shower, you don't smell but your hair is flat." He was reluctant but left knowing that there was going to be no way in which she would change her mind.
Poppy scooped up the girl and held her close until the small girl was placed in the centre of the bed as she changed. The silver hair was short but also slightly mesmerising as Poppy placed her night wear on and climbed into bed. The infant was so tiny that fear arrived that she would crush the child but quickly gave up when she felt the heat of the day cross her mind and sleep consumed her. The black that surrounded her was peaceful but still flickers of misery were felt when Alice crept into her mind. Throughout the night dainty cries were made and a small bottle was made to feed her. The healer found that despite all of the disrupted sleep she arose fresh in the morning. A quick shower was had as the pair left for the day. A stunning mustard romper was placed on her with a lace white collar that was a part of the fabric. Alice had picked it out as the clothes to be worn when the pair could leave the infirmary. Albus entered the room just as Poppy did and she gave him a look of 'you shouldn't be here yet' but still handed the girl over. "I am truly grateful." She waved him off and he took that as a cue to leave. The castle was mainly empty as students were all in their dorms as the early hours were passing. It was also Saturday so they would most likely sleep in. February 24th was the perfect time to have a baby born. He stared deeply into the face of the small girl with a rounded nose. Her skin was the palest he had ever seen, that included vampires, and her silver hair didn't assist in this but she was the prettiest baby he could imagine. His office was silent for only a second as a light cry erupted from his arms. His chuckle was faint as he fed the girl a bottle. She was his and he was hers and he knew that no harm would ever be allowed to come to her.
Minerva had walked up to the statue and muttered 'tart' making the stone move to one side. Her steps were, for her, casual as the clicking of her shoes sounded against the solid ground. "Albus, I was wondering if Alice was here. I know she is pregnant but her DADA lesson plans were left in my office I just thought that she would-" Her eyes finally saw the baby and the stern features left her face. "Oh, she is stunning." Albus warmly greeted the witch after her sudden slip of praise for the girl. Minerva placed the papers she held on the large oak desk, that was hidden beneath other paperwork and books the old man had read, and moved to the child. Albus saw the desire in her eyes and so handed her the now sleeping child. Shoulders slouched as Minerva felt the itch within finally scratched. "I bet Alice is so very pleased." She instantly regretted saying this when his expression turned more serious and a tear slipped. "She didn't make it. Poppy didn't give details and so when I contacted St Mungo's they informed me that Alice had passed before the baby had even started to cry. Aside from that the baby was unharmed." Minerva saw the sparkle in his eyes had dimmed but quickly it came back as he stared at the gorgeous child in front of him. "Have you thought of a name?" Minerva was cooing over the child and Albus found himself smirking at her. "No, do you have a suggestion?" Her eyes looked across the girl quizzically. "Alice." Her face brought about a smile and he looked like he was really pondering it. "No," her face was not surprised but she agreed, this stopped when he continued "Alice Minerva." Heat crawled up her neck and to her cheeks. "Albus," it was almost a warning and even if it was he would have ignored it. "We need a new defence teacher." His words were slow and pained as she stood still with the baby. "I have a friend who owes me a very big favour. They just so happen to be unemployed right now." Albus let a small laugh pass his lips as she left the room. He was tempted to ask for the child back but decided against it. He would have the rest of the child's life for the hugs and kisses he wanted to have so badly.
Minerva walked harshly to her office. It wasn't until she passed a painting that she slowed. "Minerva, do you make it a habit of yours to find random children?" Her eyes looked across the hall to an old professor's portrait, he was a man that once taught her muggle studies at that very same school. "No, she is Albus' child." Her mind hadn't even began to think of returning the child whilst in his office as she just felt so right in the arms of the professor. Eventually the office was reached and the baby was held in her left arm as her right furiously wrote to a good friend of hers. The child began to stir as she sent the letter off in the grasp of her owl. Small blue sparkling eyes shone at her for a moment but then they returned to the darkness of her eyelids. Without even realising it her entire face had held the largest smile that she had ever had. Her eyes flicked up and the two made their way back to the office. Albus greeted the pair with absolute love and admiration although he felt tiredness seep into him. "I suppose that you still have not slept." Minerva spoke with a sharp tongue and he only gave her a look to agree. "I am able to take the child if you wish." Although it was worded as a possibility he knew she would tell him to sleep the night through. "I am sure that I can find someone who isn't as busy as yourself Minerva if you have other engagements." She shook her head 'no' and walked away without glancing back. A bag of nappies were pulled from a near by chair as well as wipes.
The classes and then quickly even the night was conquered by all of the adults and soon Minerva found herself handing the child back to her father. "Albus, I shall leave you. You also do not need to worry about the defence position. It is filled." Dumbledore nodded and gave a thanks as he stared down at his daughter. It was Saturday and so Minerva was walking through the halls that were too silent for her liking until she approached the gates. With a pop she was at home and able to see her husband. "Minni? Is that you?" His voice was stern and worried as the door had opened and closed. "Yes dear. Sorry I didn't come home last night. I got caught up." Her lips were met with his and she smiled up at him as the couple discussed the events that had transpired since they last saw one another face to face. Letters weren't everything to the pair.
