The first day of term officially began and Alice was left to pick herself up and head to breakfast. Food took almost top priority in her life and so she walked to the great hall. For once she wasn't watching the older people getting their timetable as she herself was receiving her timetable. "Ali. Here you go." She quickly took the parchment and gave a vague thanks as the older witch carried on with her duties. "How did you know the password to the dorms?" A friendly student asked trying to sound pompous. "I was there when all the passwords were initially set." He ruffled her hair as he passed and took his seat with his friends. The prefect was like an older brother, annoying, overly protective and best of all an amazing person to joke with. It wasn't until ten more minutes of eating, getting excited and thinking passed that she was forced to pull her attention from the food.
"FRED!" The ginger had snuck up on her and grabbed her. "George you should have stopped him." She was now whispering as students from all houses were starting at her. "I take no part in this." She glared playfully. "Fred I was speaking to George." They looked at the other and nodded. "You're in." They laughed quietly as the hall returned to the usual chatter. "So, you up for a fabulous year?" Before words could accompany her nod Oscar and Noah were sat either side of her. "So lads what would be your plan today?" They looked at each other and shrugged. "Lessons." They lifted the paper that they were just handed. "We have the exact same lessons." They compared and relief washed over them all as they realised that none of them would have to be alone. "Charms first." She announced as she got to her feet and gathered her bag from the dorm.
The lessons dragged on till Alice felt the desire to sleep consume her. Unfortunately this was in potions so it wasn't the best class to do that in. "Miss Dumbledore it appears that you have decided not to pay attention. Perhaps you believe that your father's wisdom is enough for you too. Five points from Gryffindor." The red half if the room groaned whilst the yellow looked on with sympathy. His voice was rotten and unforgiving but his glaring eyes made her carry on the boring work that she was supposed to be doing. At the end of the lesson they all huffed their way to transfiguration. They sat just as before with the two boys on one desk and her on the next table with another Gryffindor. She learnt his name to be Mathew and he had a similar sense of humour to her so the pair got along incredibly well. "How well do you know her?" Mathew asked and she pondered it for a while. "She is like the mother I never had." He nodded and looked slyly at the small witch to his right. "Mr Michaels may I suggest that you stop trying to get Miss Dumbledore to misbehave also?" Her eyebrow arched at him and he gave a lost look to the girl next to him only to realise that she too held an arched eyebrow. "You can tell that you two know one another well." A proud smile sat smugly on her pale face and Mathew lightly pushed her arm.
The last lesson was divination which allowed the four to sit and talk about their day. Trelawney wasn't distracted or irritated by their discussion. They were supposed to be doing something but no one really knew so they mucked about pretending to be possessed as their eyes rolled back and voices became rough and worn out. Quickly the witch felt her hand being held and the voice if her teacher rang out. "Your palms are truly something. Remember that your life is precious but I see death and destruction." When the teacher let go she looked at her hand she quietly responded to her three friends "I just see skin. I didn't realise that death was a visible thing but well I am shook." Her hands then gripped the table as her limbs shook it. They all nearly fell to the floor as they laughed at the witch who had rolled her eyes back so the blue wasn't visible. But, just as had happened all day the bell went allowing the students to head for dinner.
As the four sat at the table a scruffy Hufflepuff walked by. He couldn't have been any older than her as he smiled nervously yet cheekily at her. His eyes glistening as he passed and she noticed this immediately. Alice responded with a completely nervous smile but there was also underlying confidence behind her smile as supported by her small wiggle of fingers in response to his. He had walked past the table to his and she brought her attention back to her food. "You like him." Fred whispered and she waved him off. "To be honest if he asked me out I would turn him down." They nodded disbelieving and rolled their eyes at the statement that they didn't find convincing. "Who would you say yes to?" She shook her head 'no' and admitted "I am too young for that." This response was believed a little more but not completely.
The night was mostly spent in thought and homework as she valiantly tried to get as much done in the night as she could. "The first day and he set all of this." Her silver strands were tugged relentlessly and she felt ready to give up and fall asleep but she couldn't. It was only seven but for nearly two hours she had been doing the designated work. The parchments were all filled and her hand had cramped from the relentless work though she refused to give in. The adults would not get the satisfaction of knowing that they had broken her. Although the work wasn't due for a while she didn't care as it just had to be done as soon as possible.
