A whole year was just gone as Alice looked at the red train once again. The steam had engulfed her senses as she pushed valiantly on. Her head snapped and turned as she travelled, making sure that the twins weren't lurking to scare her. Eventually she found the carriage that held her closest friends. Noah and Oscar were inseparable unless it was her as the three would move mountains inch by inch for each of the other ones. Miriam and Lucinda also were close as they were a fierce storm that couldn't be separated. "Ladies." She greeted four of them valiantly and faux alluringly. Before she had the chance to shut the door arms wrapped around her. "Fred!" She exclaimed in utter shock. "Please stop." She pretended to pout at the twin. "I am George." Alice shook her head and retorted "no. George is far too hansom to look like you." A hand came to his chest at the playful words as he faked hurt. She took this in and got on her tiptoes which gave her enough height to kiss George's cheek. "See you later boys." Finally she shut the door but the pair joined them along with Lee Jordan. They all remained in there until the time to change arrived and they all departed to place their uniforms on. Red was proudly worn.
The carriage ride was filled with laughs and catching up as all the students spoke face to face finally. "Mum had me de-gnoming the garden all summer." The twins whined then began bickering 'no you didn't. I did' was repeated back and forth constantly for the ride. "Miriam how were your parents?" She spoke of the holiday and endless questions that they asked. "Muggle parents!" She giggled out and those listening could only agree. The journey was a bumpy one and there was a constant jiggle to them.
The tables were all sat silently waiting for the first year students to take their place in the hall. The Gryffindor table was placed and decorated with the older generations of students when the large doors swung open. The small ones wandered in but the entire time Alice watched intensely for Harry.
There he was. His brown hair sat just as it had the year or so before but his uniform created an air of consideration and care as his oversized clothes were long forgotten and instead his robes covered him. The sorting ceremony began but Alice only paid attention to the one boy who was yet to identify her. The circular glasses were reflecting the lights around him as he watched the room in awe. "Harry James Potter." He walked hesitantly up to the stool as the headmaster lent forward in his chair awaiting the decision. It did take a moment and a lot of whispering from Harry when the hat clearly shouted "Gryffindor!" He walked to the table and sat down after shaking their hands quickly. When he sat he felt his shin being kicked and when green eyes looked up to see the culprit his gleaming green eyes once again met blue ones. "Hello Harry. I told you that it would make sense." His pale face lit up and he couldn't stop the smile that plastered his features. "I have dreamt of you so many times. Not weirdly just you saving me from the Dursley family and finally it happened." She nodded and turned her attention up to the large table.
Alice listened to her father speak and give a few warnings but she chose not to listen. His frame soon made contact with the chair shortly after the food appeared. During the meal time she had the chance to meet the young ones that entered with him. Ron and Hermione. On odd occasions she had visited the burrow so she already knew of him existing but Hermione was a new face. "So, tell me about yourself." The younger witch pondered it for a while until she spoke. "I am muggle-born. I love to read and have read everything that I could about this place before I arrived." Alice ate and listened until she silenced. "Well, books are good but I was literally born and raised in here. Need to know something ask me." Hermione placed her fork into the pie and took that in. "Oh and Daisy makes the best pies." The first year readily agreed as she ate more of the pie. It was obvious that Daisy had made it had her usual H-G had been spelt on top of it. 'Hogwarts-Daisy' was all it meant. Simple and odd but that was why Alice loved the elf so much.
"Tell me about yourself." Hermione had replied eventually. "I am not a pure-blood but I am the daughter to the greatest wizard ever known. Even greater than Merlin himself." She was proud of the fact but Hermione looked confused. "My last name is Dumbledore." Her eyes shot wide but obvious disbelief was shown. "There is no mention of you in any books." Alice rolled her eyes at the statement. "Books are very important. I get lost in them but they aren't everything." Hermione still didn't believe the witch and it drove Alice insane. "Oi! Freddie. Who is my father?" He looked and shrugged his shoulders which only heightened the disbelief. "Insufferable git. I am not storming off again like last year." The two girls sat in silence till they were all told to head to their room. Ron was most annoyed as he wanted to continue eating the food in front of him.
The common room was busy with the students but they silenced when Minerva walked in to set them on their way to bed. "Minerva." The old woman gave a look of 'hell no' so the young girl gave in. "Mamma. What is happening on the third floor?" She just shook her head 'no' which made Alice huff and stomp her foot. "You used to do that when I told you that you weren't allowed to do something. Your father has decided that the danger is too great. It is best left unspoken." Alice rolled her eyes making Minerva give her a warning glance. "Goodnight Minerva." Alice didn't need to turn around to see the glare that she was receiving. "I am not Minerva to you." Alice turned on her heel and nodded "very well Professor." It was obvious that she was getting under the woman's skin. "Do not take that tone with me." Alice sighed and spoke again a little more worried though. "Professor where was Maw at dinner?" That was the reaction she wanted as the older woman felt her calm slip. "She was busy. She is Maw still I see." Alice defiantly nodded "what else would she be? Pom-Pom is Professor Sprout." Minerva just sighed. "You have a knack like your father to get under my skin. You two will be the death of me. Goodnight love." The pair were about to go their own way when Fawks placed a letter in the hands of the young girl. "Dad wants to see me."
Minerva was escorting the student to the teachers area when she began speaking again. "Will I die if I set foot on the third floor?" Minerva refused to answer as she knew that the girl was smart enough to work it all out in seconds. "I am cold." Alice mumbled and despite an initial attempt to ignore it Minerva saw the blue lips and so wrapped the girl in a warm hug and brought her into the cloak she wore. "I told you not to change into nightwear." Alice pulled away and mumbled an apology. "Stubborn girl." Was also mumbled as a reply. "You are the stubborn one. Keeping secrets from me." The rest of the walk was filled with unanswered questions as Alice grew impatient. "Fine. I will just see for myself." The old woman stopped but Alice refused to do so as the cold was getting to her. "Big girl." Her voice was warning but Alice refused to even acknowledge it. "You promise me that you wont even go near there." Alice shook her head defiantly as the silver hair began to cover her face. "Ali. I am not asking." Her tone was similar to a class setting. "Minerva, I am not promising." The pair finally reached the door and they entered.
"Quite the murderous look there Minerva." Rolanda commented as the door was shut and the small girl found the seat next to her father. "Last year you sat on my lap. We are all growing up." Her blue eyes met his and comfort was found momentarily. "Albus, she has decided to venture onto the third floor." He looked at the girl in warning but she chose to ignore it as she focused her attention on a book that Sprout read. "Pom-Pom. What are you reading?" The room could obviously identify the change of subject. "We spend our lives with students. We are professors so we see when there has been a topic change." The voice of Filius sounded around the room and she shrugged. "You all act like when I go up there some dog is going to bite my head off." Worried glances were exchanged and she had to smile at the hint that had just been given. "I spent the summer practicing wordless magic. I managed a few without my wand even." Wide open eyes watched on as she managed to flick the page over that Pomona was reading. Her hand lowered and the staff all seemed satisfied with the topic change.
