Prom is next week and I cannot wait. I think this is the most excited I've been in a while. We convinced Dan to take a follower with him, so he is now taking Talyia Spencers, who is a demure red-head. Riley is going with Brock Tarrens. Hannah is going with Edward Haines and Laine is going with Kyle Carse. Brock is on the football team and since Riley is also a cheerleader, it was appropriate that they went together. He asked her during their study hall. It was kind of cute. He got up on stage with a microphone and rapped for her. It was terrible, but adorable. Talyia was the only follower who gave up trying to get Dan to prom, so he asked her. She didn’t shriek, she simply said ‘yes’ to his note in math. Edward decorated Hannah’s locker and Kyle is Mr. Halone’s nephew; he knows what is going on between them and is helping cover up their relationship. I thought it was a bad idea, but since I do not decide who goes with who, I kept quiet, obviously. Dan, on the other hand, was very vocal about his opposition to the relationship. He even talked with Mr. Halone. I was with him when it happened. “Mr. Halone, it seems that you are pursuing my cousin.” Dan started. “Yes, I am. I love her very much.” Mr. Halone stated. “Love is just a four letter word in this day and age. It is just an excuse to lure young women into bed. Trust me, I’ve used it on many girls. You can’t do that to my cousin though. She’s my family, you harm her, I harm you. I’m like the brother she never had. Fuck with her, you fuck with me.” “Daniel, I would never hurt your cousin. I’m much more mature than you are. You just proved it. You use young girls for sex.” “Males’ brains tend to mature at a slower pace than women's’, so while you may be thinking of moving in together, she may be thinking of marriage and starting a family. Also, you know nothing about me and my personal life.” “I want to start a family now. I want to get married to her the second I leave the school!” “Sure, but is that the right thing to do? Do you know what will happen in ten years?” “Listen, ten years will happen in ten years, don’t try to push me too far ahead.” “No, if you cannot see yourself with her in ten years, then you never deserve to see her.” Dan ran out of the room. “Sadie, could you please give me a moment, I have some serious contemplating to do?” I awkwardly left the room.

Prom night came very quickly. The week before was filled with preparations and expenses. I still didn’t know what was really going on. Monroe was really hush hush on the whole prom situation. The only thing I knew was what I was wearing and who I was going with, which I really didn't know because I barely saw him! Riley and her mother decided to host a makeover party at their house before prom. The boys all went to Dan's house for their pre-prom preparations. I went to Riley's. I should have stayed home. The place reeked of hairspray and perfumes. Laine and Talyia were already there. We also let Ian Michael and Alyssa come along on our pre-prom journeys. Alyssa was late, but a lady who I'm guessing was Martha, was ready. She grabbed me and put me in a chair. I was instructed to wear a button down, I guess it was for easy changing into our dresses. She started right away. "Your hair is ratty, dear. Do you brush it every day?" I shook my head. "That makes sense. It's a rat's nest, but if it wasn't knotted, it would be absolutely gorgeous." She proceeded to rip my hair out, follicle by follicle. I stopped feeling the pain after a while. The reason my hair is a mess is because I stopped caring after he hurt me. He really destroyed my being. I looked like a mess. I looked like a totally different person.

Once she finished pulling out my hair, she started to cut it. "You're awfully silent." She said. "Mom, don't." Riley said. "Okay, I'll let it go. You do have really long hair. It looks smooth now. It's very soft." She combed through it and trimmed the split ends off. Then came the styling. She tried some up dos, but they looked weird. She decided on just curling it. When she was done, I had ringlet curls cascading down my face. It was nice. Then, Riley did my makeup. I did not understand why women wear make-up. You have to sit completely still while opening your eyes in an awkward way. During my make-up session,  Alyssa showed up. "I don't know if I even want to go to prom anymore!" She screamed. "Why dear" Martha asked. "Ian's being distant and really weird. He eyes are unfocused. He forgot to pick me up! What gentleman forgets his lady?  Obviously, not a good one!"  Alyssa was about to cry. "Calm down, maybe something happened. Maybe a family member is in the hospital. He could be worried about a cousin or aunt. Relax Alyssa, I'm sure he has a reason." Riley comforted. "Yeah, he said his car wasn't starting so he had to call his father to help fix it." "See, relax Alyssa. It will be okay. He'll make it a fun night. I'm sure of it." Riley assured the hysterical girl. She coaxed Alyssa to her mother's chair. "Do you know how you want your hair?" Martha asked. Riley went back to torturing my face in an art form of make-up. I was not fond of make-up. The last time I wore it was that night. "You look fantastic, Sadie. I absolutely love your hair and makeup and dress. It looks great on you! The things you make me feel. When she was done, I felt like a clown. I didn't feel like me. It was odd to wear make-up. I did look nice though. It is the nicest I've looked in a long time. I usually wear long sleeved shirts and either sweatpants or jeans. I only wear things to cover up my past.
