Fear:
Crouching on the hallway floor
In between classes
Trying to find your glasses
Praying to god that they didn't break
When they fell off of your face.
Then, just when you thought things couldn't get any worse
You hear those footsteps
Arrogant, terrifying
It's the biggest bully in school
Fear:
Waking up at one in the morning
To the front door crashing open
Footsteps stumbling inside
Drunken mumbling
You hear him stumbling up the stairs
Towards your bedroom door
Fear:
Jumping from the ship
Into the water
Onto the beach
Sand underneath your feet
Your gun has never felt heavier
The screaming has never been louder.
You can't catch lightning in a bottle,
But you can catch thunder in the barrel of a gun.
Everybody fights a battle every day
And everyday you have a choice.
The evolution of the mind is to run, to hide,
To do anything you can to stay alive,
But every so often
When the feeling's just right
You stand your ground and fight.
You're fearless:
You pick up your glasses
Get off of the ground,
And right as he's coming around the corner
Right as he starts calling your name
You hit him square in the face
Then shove him down.
Fearless:
Right as he's coming in your room
You stand up
Pull the gun from under the pillow
That you've kept hidden for a month
But were too afraid to use.
You shove it underneath his jaw
His breath smells of alcohol
You shove him against the wall
He tries to fight but your grip is too strong.
You could end it all now,
But you still have a heart,
Even if he doesn't.
Fearless:
You run towards the thunder
Towards your doom
You feel the soft stab of metallic lightning,
You didn't even know you were hit until you saw the blood
You go down screaming
Not from pain,
Or fear,
But rage.
The last thing you see as you fall to the ground
is feet running past you
All the other fearless men
