Everyday Monotony

You're afraid of what's inside your heart
And the emotions it could bring
You're afraid if what's inside your mind
So you forget everything
You're afraid of what's beyond the veil
Of death that separates
You from everyone you've ever known.
You're afraid of anything
That has been set in stone.
You wake up every morning,
The same time every day.
You get dressed and ready
For an office job you hate.
You fill the day with paper work
And your depression with prescription drugs
You hate your job but hold the anger in
And take it out on everyone you love.
You stare at computer screens
Every beautiful day of June
Your eyes are already heavy
Even though it's only noon.
Your employer lectures you
Your production has been down this month.
Your fist is clenched in anger
You wish you could take a punch.
He says he has to let you go
You can't believe what you hear.
As you're packing up your stuff
Your anger turns to fear.
You never tell your wife
You just come home in silence
You know if you open your mouth
The words will turn to violence.
You disappear that night
You don't even leave a note
You visit a couple bars
Your wallets running on low
They find your body the next day
Just outside your house
With a bottle in your hand
And a handful of pills in your mouth.
You lived your life like everyone else
A coward in disguise.
Trying to end the monotony
You ended up taking your life.
