There are different types of darknesses.
There's a walking through a woods darkness,
When you're facing your fears,
It's like a physical fight
Your terrified, petrified,
But you raise a fist,
Lift your foot,
Take a swing,
Walk a step,
Step into the darkness regardless of what your fears are screaming.
There's a sitting in your bedroom at midnight darkness.
All wrapped up in blankets with only your face uncovered,
Watching the darkness,
Watching the shadows interact with the emptiness,
Just watching and waiting for morning.
Finally, there's a looking at stars type of darkness.
Laying in the grass,
Your head tilted up,
All alone in the dark,
But unafraid,
Because of the intimacy of the stars above.
You can feel their warmth,
Almost like staring into a fire.

The funny thing about experiences,
Is that nobody experiences them the same way.
Your darkness is not my darkness,
And we all have countless darknesses that always change.
There's the tempting darkness in the desert,
In the body,
In your skin,
Whispering at you, getting louder and louder until it's screaming.
There's a darkness in your head,
Telling you that nobody loves you,
Everyone left you with everyone else,
Leaving you all alone
To rot, unloved, unwanted, abandoned.
There's a darkness in the world,
That turns us into robots,
Hopeless dystopias,
Bodies on televisions,
People screaming and bleeding and nobody caring.

At times all you can do is hope for a light.
Sometimes a firefly
Can light the way.
Sometimes a single smile
Can make your day.
Sometimes a single person
Can change your life,
Change what you do,
Change what you say.
