You're sitting by a fire,
A bright crimson ghost,
Swirling in the cool night air,
Grabbing for the sky
Like it's reaching for the stars,
Burning in and of itself,
And consuming what you feed it.
You're confused this time,
You don't know what it means,
You're beaten and tired,
But you know you can't sleep,
Because you'll fall into the fire,
And you know you can't leave,
Because you'll freeze in the night.
So you stay with this flame,
And it's ever changing shape,
Balancing yourself
Between being asleep and awake,
Feeding the ghost,
Giving it life,
And warming your broken bones
In this dark summer night.
