The Poem

Every love poem
Someday gets forgotten,
It's meaning lost in a maze of new emotions.
The paper it was written on
Gets crumpled and torn,
Like the flag,
Of an old, forgotten nation.
So you set fire to the paper.
Not to forget what you wrote,
You could never forget those words,
But to give it a final farewell.
To look into the flame,
The beauty of the pain,
And remember the beauty you were thinking of when you wrote it.
You have to overcome every struggle that comes your way.
You have to look into the past and overcome the pain.
You weren't wrong when you wrote the poem,
You were just speaking another truth than you are today.
Ever since you wrote it, so many things have changed.
You're still confused, still stuck in yesterday,
And so am I,
That's why I'm talking to you,
The parts of my thoughts I thought I could hide,
But I had to let you go,
Set you on fire,
And embrace the rest of my life.
