An Unneeded Apology

I'm scared by my phone ringing,
Afraid of the noise,
I pick it up and I'm afraid of the voice
That sounds a bit too electric,
A bit too inhuman,
Since it traveled a hundred thousand miles,
Through a hundred thousand wires,
And into my fragile ears.
And I'm afraid because I don't know what to say,
I don't know how to feel.
I hang up and I feel guilty but it was the only choice.
The only way to get rid of that awful noise,
And that inhuman voice.
So all I'm saying is I'm sorry if I hang up while you're speaking,
I simply just don't know how to talk,
How to hear,
How to feel.
