Happy Ending

You have a shallow grip on reality
Strong enough that you don't fall away
But not deep enough to go in all the way.
You still don't know the way.
You begin to dread each day.
Do you ever want to jump out of a plane?
Stand in front of a train?
People are screaming at you but you won't move out of the way!

You have a strong grip on the pocketknife.
At some point in the night,
Everybody thinks about taking their life,
We forget about the light
Forget about what's right.
We want to jump out of the sky or,
Jump into a fire,
Tie a noose out of wires,
Spill out what's inside you.

Our hearts are made out of love letters and goodbye notes.
How come sometimes
We forget about the heart strings,
And only remember how to tie the rope.
We forget what a person spoke
Every day,
But not what he wrote,
In his farewell when he was all alone!
Maybe you want to know
The taste of a pistol in your mouth,
The smell of burning down your house,
The excitement of falling down
Thirty stories, hit the ground
People taking pictures all around,
Ambulances, paramedics,
It's too late, why can't they just forget it?
You already said it,
In your letter,
"Don't try to save me,
Just let me end it!"
But the end won't come, they won't let it
Your body is fragile and you've upset it,
But you've got to give those doctors credit
They stitched you up and made you better,
But you're still not fine,
You don't regret it,
You'd jump again in a split second...

People get you help but everything fails,
They try to help you learn to prevail,
But it's all to no avail,
You're watching life through a veil,
And right now you're just sitting there,
On a hospital bed just breathing air,
Trying to imagine how a happy ending could possibly happen,
When happiness is seemingly nowhere...
