Silence

Chapter 40

           Today was the first day back to school from Winter Break. I wanted to wear something nice but I figured I'd wear something comfortable.

When my dad drops me off at school I felt drained and I wasn't mentally prepared for 4 more months of this shit.
"Josie how was your break?" Martin asks and I look at him.

"Short" I abruptly answer.

           I get to my first class and even the teacher looked tired. Being in high school was so much work to get up and look good. Hopefully I didn't look like trash for Ryan.

"Josie anything interesting happen for you during break" Lucy asks as we walk to gym.

"Nothing really" I lie and groan when I learn we have to run across the track 3 times.

I ran one lap and then hid in the bushes. I looked at Ryan and he saw me and then went over to me.

"What are you doing?" he asked and then begins to laugh.

"I don't wanna run so I'm hiding out here" I say and then pull him in. and then we start making out. Before you judge me Ryan's really cute and a good kisser. I'm surprised Issac hasn't tried to steal him from me.

But then I remember Dylan and feel guilty he deserves better. All I was gonna to do was make his life worse than it was. I wanted to talk to him about the kiss and about Ryan but I couldn't.

The bad thing was I liked kissing Dylan so I knew it was gonna haunt me. I figured I'd avoid him but then realize I have classes with him. This was going to be a lot harder than I expected.

"Hey you two are you done" Scott said and shakes his head at us in the bush.

"Dude chill out" Ryan said as he got up and then helped me up.

"Dude come out let's play some football" Scott said and tossed one to Ryan. He laughed and tossed it back and when Scott tried to throw it at me I screamed.

"Josie what's wrong what happened?" Ryan asked and looked at me.

"I hate things that are being thrown at me" I say and laugh a bit and Scott laughed and I picked up the ball and threw it back to him.

"Isn't your dad the football coach though?" Scott asks me and I tell him to shut up.

Drama was awkward Dylan and I didn't talk and we had this weird substitute. At lunch I sat with Ryan and looked at Stasia and all of them judging me. I hadn't talked to them since Winter Break and now I'm lowkey ditching them.

The Worst Friend of the Century Award goes to Josie Marabell.

"Hey so is it true that you two are an item?" Lucy asks and Ryan looks at me and I slowly nod.

"Oh my god I fucking knew it!" Davina exclaimed and I told her to shush.

"I don't want anyone else knowing so guys we keep it between us okay" I tell them and they nod.

"Josie you're amazing" Ryan tells me and I smile and take his chips. Maybe I could tell Dylan and he'd understand.

But after we kissed I felt different I thought I was crazy for thinking that he and I could be something real. But it was in the moment and it would never happen again.

After the long school day and awkward conversations with Stasia and Issac in language arts and with her alone in home economics I knew the drama now just the beginning of it.

"Josie do you wanna hang out" Ryan asks and because I lacked homework I told him sure. He walked to my house and we walked to one of his friend's house.

"Josie this is Lucas and Kane" Ryan said as we walked into the house. I remembered Lucy telling me about them at a sleepover.

They were hot as fuck and even I wouldn't deny it. Ryan did a hand shake with Lucas and Kane handed him a juul.

"Do you wanna try" he asks me and I shake my head and watch him do it and it kind of made me upset. To watch him do it made me disappointed in him.

           We all then start a conversation about our families. Lucas told me that his family were all crazy.

"They always yell at me to do everything for them" he exclaims as Kane laughs and they get into a fight. I laughed as Ryan then kissed me. He and I began to kiss harder until I broke it off.

"Ryan they're right there" I remind him and he laughs. Then the door swings opens and two girls walk in and Lucas and Kane stop fighting and welcome the girls.

"Alma and Yena say hi" they said and they look at me. They were both black girls and they were prettier than me.

"Ryan Josie you guys want something to drink" Kane asks and I shake my head as does Ryan.

"I gotta get this damsel in distress home see you guys around" he says and we begin to walk back to my house but I felt weird. Maybe Ryan wasn't the one maybe my soulmate was right in front of me.
