I felt a bolder being lifted off my chest. I no longer had to pretend to feel and be something that I'm not. I would finally be returning back to my lover after three long and draining months. The only thing that still nudged at my consciousness was the mere thought that I have killed four people since my arrival here. Shouldn't I feel some remorse or at least a bit sick?
When I killed Lord Morris or whatever his actual name is, I felt exhilarated. Even the death of my mother does not make me feel resentful only angry because she did not deserve to die by my hands. She was sick but was there any way to truly fix her? Daine had distorted her personality so much that she was hardly recognizable. My mother has never struck me a day in her life, and within the six-month timeframe, she managed to get three good hits in.
I glanced over at Alina. I'm sure that she thought I would not show at all. She didn't ask why I staggered along, and I'm pretty sure she did not care. All that mattered was returning back to her lover, Jace. They had been apart for so long, who knows if she was feeling the same feelings I was feeling about Damien.
I had pulled her away from Jace for too long, she deserved to go back to him. And by the God's grace, I managed to be returning to my own lover. I could not wait to hold him, lay with him and even practice fighting with him. Enjoying his company was more than enough to satisfy me. Alina reached over and grasps my hand in hers,
"I am so glad we got out of there alive," she replies with a smile. I smile with her. What an odd conversation this would be if my littlest brother were to awaken. Before I answered her, a loud thump shook the carriage. This caused the wagon to halt. The two of us looked outside our small windows but spotted nothing that would cause the carriage to stop.
"Did we hit something?" Alina asks the coachman. I look over at my brother who was thankfully still sleeping. The coachman did not answer so Alina opened her door and stepped out. I waited for her to return, but after a few minutes of dead silence, I started to get worried.
"Alina?" I call out. No one answered.
"Alina?" I try one more time. I scoot over to her side and peer out her window. Before I could look around, I heard the sound of my door being opened, and then everything went dark.
I jumped up and looked around frantically. I was in the carriage, leaning against Alina with wide eyes. I scanned the carriage, and everything seemed normal. But I thought...hmm. Alina was looking down at me amused, and I could still hear my brother's peaceful snores. I sat up and looked at her,
"What happened? Did you hit me or something?" I question while rubbing my head. My tight bun was still in place, but my veil was not. I must have dropped it when I killed the Lord. Alina looked at me bewildered,
"No, you fell asleep silly."
"I did?" I mumble, fully awake now. She nods,
"Yes, all that pretending must have made you sleepy," she comments. I look out my window and notice the trees passing by. Since everyone was coming through the gate for the wedding, we had to go through the woods to get to the castle.
