*Alina pronounced like Elena*
I sat up and stretched my hands in the air. Another sleepless night on the cold brick floor. I had nothing to do but sit and think. The only thing that I could think about was my brother's frozen corpse in my grasp. He was too young to be ripped from the world so fast. But it's not like he had much of a dazzling future ahead of him. He would have either been a soldier doing pointless duties for the Lord, or he would live out the rest of his life hiding in fear of these monsters. Monsters. King Damien truly lived up to his name. What kind of man could genuinely live with killing a child? An innocent child. His heart must truly be coated in darkness. A guard came by and slid in some water and bread. When he walked back to his post, I crawled over and grabbed my dinner. I bit into the cold dough and groaned in discomfort. I tried to wash it down and immediately spit back out the water.
Ugh! Taste like they just dipped my cup in the cleaning water and then gave it to me. Not only would I die of boredom but I would die from hunger. I eased myself back against the wall and tore off a piece of the bread and ate it one by one. It was probably his idea to starve me. If I would spend the rest of my life eating salty water and stale bread, the least I could do is blame someone. Or at least hate someone. The only person I hated at this time was King Damien. Surely I can't do anything about this hate, but it was a nice distraction from my pending death. At least I wasn't being tortured, I thought. I looked over at the cages on my left and right and found them surprisingly empty. I'm surprised that there isn't more of them here. He hates nearly everyone, and I'm sure there aren't a shortage of enemies.
Days turn into weeks, and I'm still alive. Barely, but at least I still have a beating heart. Who knew it would take this long to die? I watched another guard come in and place my breakfast on the tray and then slid it to me. I crawled over and grabbed it. My favorite guard was here today. He always left me a piece of fruit. I figured out that the guards had rotation shifts. Every first three days of the week I would get the rude guard who only fed me salty water and day-old bread. He would taunt me and then throw the dough at me. Then the next three days, I would get the nice one who gave me bread, fruit, and drinkable water. At least he treated me like a person.
It was so quiet that I felt like I could hear my blood running. Weeks of having salty water and semi-fresh water have done nothing but wreak havoc on my vocal cords. Now I can no longer speak. Why can't I just die already? My once white gown was now covered in dirt and filth from the lack of bathrooms in this place. My hair was filled with dirt and grime. I was a complete mess. I closed my eyes and starting picturing myself back at home. Mama making a fresh fruit pie, Ollie running around playing with his wooden animal's and me basking in it all. Just enjoying my serene families moment. I opened my eyes slightly and swore I saw something. I opened my eyes fully and saw the last person I would ever wanna see. The King himself.
"Hey, Addy" he greets with a fake smile. I held my tongue because I had a lot of venoms to spit out. I didn't want to get hit. Another vampire came in, and it was a female. She had light brown hair that fell on her shoulders. All vampires have sharp, distinct features whether it be a sharp nose, chin, cheekbones or eyes. She had bright eyes that I have never seen on another human being or vampire. Her eyes were light red. Such an odd color. They both were leaning over me. Is this some sick dream?
"She's too weak for me to do anything."
"That's fine. We can have a chit-chat while Addeline gets fed." I groaned in response. Really wish I had my voice. All manners would go out the window, and I would let him have it. God, I despised this self-righteous, pompous ass-
"She's got some fascinating thoughts about you."
"I bet." he smiles while piercing his fangs into his palm. He grabbed my cup of water and dumped it on the floor. He squeezed his blood into it and then puts it to my lips.
