I wandered around the empty forest, searching for the lake where I left my littlest brother. The sky was violet signaling that the sun had abandoned me hours ago. I tried to make sense of everything that I had seen just recently. Is Theodore trying to communicate some sort of message to me? And how is he even capable of doing that? Is he dead? Am I talking to the dead?
Or is he alive, just visiting me and leaving holes in my memories? I tried to speed off, but I landed out of breath against a tree. Why am I so drained? I pushed forward and zipped to another tree a few miles farther. Now it feels like my lungs are burning. I dashed to another tree and nearly toppled over. I feel so tired, and I'm sweating bullets.
I took in massive gulps of air and stumbled to my feet. I gripped the tree for dear life and tried to zip off again. I zipped into a hard surface, and at this point, I have no idea if it was even a tree. Whatever I ran into, latched on to my arms,
"Addeline! We were worried sick about you. Where have you been?" A voice spoke to me. I struggled to look up at whoever it was. My eyes were close to being completely shut. There was not an ounce of light outside, but it felt like someone was shining it directly in my eyes. I grumbled in response and the person lowered me onto the ground.
"Are you alright?" their worried voice filled my ears.
"Jace! I found her!" my mate called out. He pulled me into his arms and whooshed over to the castle. I heard the sound of someone whooshing through the trees and figured that it was Jace following close behind. We arrived at the castle, and within a few moments, I was laid out on our bed.
Damien backed away and then left out the room. In an instant he returned, and from what I could smell, he had bought some 'refreshments' with him. He knew that I hate feeding, but at the same time I was wearing myself thin. I needed it regardless of if I actually wanted it. He placed a cup down on the nightstand and then helped me sit up.
Once I was sitting erect, he placed the cup near my lips, and on the instant I drunk from the cup greedily. My energy returned, and I could finally think straight. I lowered the glass and leaned on to his arm. He got into bed with me and held me. For a moment, we didn't speak, and then he cleared his throat,
"Addeline," he starts. I wave my hand signaling him to stop. He did not know need to continue. I already knew what he was going to say.
"I already know what you're about to ask."
"Then tell me. Because one sec. You're taking Oliver to the lake and then the next you are gone for hours, and the only person at the lake is a crying Oliver who thought he was left behind."
"I didn't leave him intentionally."
"Well, how did you accidentally leave him?"
"It's hard to explain." I try. He sighs loudly,
"You do realize that this a vampire kingdom. Someone could have taken him away, and then you would never see him again." he scolds, and I roll my eyes. I knew the truth in his statement, and I also knew that he genuinely cares about Oliver's wellbeing. However I did not need his scolding, it was not my fault. How could I explain that I am having vivid flashbacks about his family? Flashbacks that I had no idea if they were right or not.
"You're right. I will be more careful." I reply monotoned. He moved his body so that he could look me in my eyes.
"Don't speak to me like what I am saying is just going in one ear and out the other. This isn't the human fraction. You know that if you have anything to say or disagree about that you can tell me." Damien replies. Must he be so good at reading me?
I could not share what is honestly going on with me because I had no clue what it is. Perhaps my mind is being shot through from this curse. Thinking about my curse DNA makes me think back to his raging mother. How could she have been raped to death if she was a full grown animal most of the time? Something didn't add up.
