I stood in the ballroom, holding up the pink drapes while begrudgingly listening to Alina barking orders,
"A little to the right," she instructs, and I slide a little over. Standing right underneath me is Jace. He is holding the bright pink ribbons that we had moved around about six times now. She dismissed all the staff that we assigned to help her with her baby shower. She said they were not doing things the right way. Leaving me and poor Jace to do the dirty work.
"Hmmm a little more," she replies from behind me
"Woman if I move over any more, I'm going to fall off this ladder," I grumble. After a few seconds of silence, she finally replies,
"Perfect!" I hadn't even moved from my last position.
"This is why we have staff darling." Jace comments from behind him
"They don't fix it right, and I usually come behind them and do it the way I want it. But you said I can't be moving around too much because of the-"
"Because of the baby." We both finished for her. I swear that was her favorite excuse. I heard the sound of footsteps and prayed to the gods that it was Damien. Save me from this fiasco! Sure enough, I smelt his familiar scent and felt a smile creep over my lips.
"Sorry to interrupt but I need Addeline," he asks Alina, and I nearly leap off the ladder. I rush to his side and wipe my hair from my face,
"Oh man, wish I could stay and help but you know...duty calls," I reply as I wrap my arm around his and hurry towards the exit.
"Alright," she sighs,
"You'll be back right?"
"Of course!" I shout from behind me and hurry out the ballroom. Thank the gods for this man. Once we are a few feet away from the hall and the demanding pregnant woman, I turn to him.
"Thank the gods that you came. I don't know how much more baby shower prep I could do." I joke as I lean in for a kiss. He pulls back a little. I halt and move back to my position. Odd,
"Is something wrong?" I question. Ever since it was revealed that I had the gift of sight a few weeks ago, I feel like he has drifted from me. He acts like he does not want to show any type of affection nor does he rarely even speak to me.
"Nothing's wrong." he lies. He's been saying the same two words so many times that I think he's starting to believe his own lies.
"That's a load of-"
"I just came to let you know that the council will be coming soon."
"The council? Why would they be coming here?" From what I read about them, they rarely make an appearance. Only when something significant is happening or when something really awful has happened. I wonder which one is the reason,
"They are coming to join us together as beloved's and to give you your crown as my queen." Wow! That was huge news. But the way he spoke it as if it was an ordinary everyday thing. Like syncing our lives together as one and me becoming queen is just a regular Tuesday.
"Ok, something is clearly bothering you. First, you won't show me any affection, then you drop this huge news on me, but you act like it's not a big deal."
"I'm excited," he replied flatly. What a terrible liar.
"Tell me what's bothering you." I persist
"Nothing." he lies. I wanted to ball my fist up and attack that stubborn man. Why can't he just tell me?
"If you don't tell me what's bothering you, I will use other methods to get that information," I reply back as I cross my arms over my chest. Damien narrowed his eyes at me,
