Earlier that day...

Sabin, Jace and I were all seated in the grand hall listening to the many complaints that the townspeople often had. Most of their complaints were simple things like who gets the piece of fruit that just so happenly grew into their impossibly close farms and so on and so forth. Addeline is so lucky she gets to have tea with Alina because there is nothing I would like more than to just laze about all day. Thinking about Addeline makes a smile grow all over my face. She was five months pregnant now and we passed the worry mark. She would definitely have our first child and I was thrilled over the moon. I hope its a boy so we can both teach him wisdom and how to survive in a world such as this. Suddenly a man pushed frantically through the crowd until he reached the very front,

"Your Highness!" he shouted out of breath. He was a rather scrawny guy but his eyes were wide with fear.

"Hey, wait your turn!"

"Please, this is important!" he begged and I waved hand signaling him to continue. The crowd grumbled in annoyance but they separated and let the man through to speak freely.

"It's the town square. A...a human has entered the town square." The crowd began mumbling nervously. A human? How did a human get in here? I exchanged looks with Jace and he looked equally confused and shocked. I thought back to Oliver and sighed it may just be Oliver. I stood up to calm the quickly rowdy crowd,

"Everyone calm down. We will go to address the situation." I assured as all three of us headed out the grand hall and out towards the town. The crowd had followed behind like we were going straight to battle. They probably needed some type of entertainment for their dull lives. We approached the town square and saw a different crowd surrounding something.

"Let the King through!" one of the crowd members shouted. The other crowd divided and right in the middle of them was a small cowering child. It was a human child no doubt. I could hear its little fragile heart tripling in beats.

"We should kill it." Jace states and Sabin looks at him incredulously

"It's a child."

"A human child." he corrects

"So what. Since when do we kill the innocent." Sabin argues. In a way they both were right. It makes the most sense to kill the child because he could be carrying the antibodies from the Lagundi plant and essentially kill us. But at the same time, he was just a child and was completely unaware of the atrocities that his predecessors have committed. It was 50/50 and could be looked at both ways. Sabin turns to me,

"Damien, you have your own babe that you're about to welcome into this world. Think if the roles were reversed, wouldn't you want the humans to spare your child if he was in this predicament." I thought on her plea. But I knew the harsh reality. The humans wouldn't hesitate to slaughter a cursed babe before it grew older and more capable of killing them first. I knew what had to be done.

"Things aren't that black and white Sabin," I replied as I pulled the sword from my guard's waist. She looked at me in disbelief and then swiftly moved to protect the child.

"I can't let you do this," she replied as her eyes darkened. I sighed heavily

"Sabin, don't make this more complicated than it already is."

"You're crazy if you think I'm going to let you kill a child."

"Sabin."

"No!" I gripped the sword annoyingly. Suddenly the child held its two fingers to its mouth and whistled. Sabin turned around to face the child confusedly but while she was distracted an arrow tore through the air and hit her shoulder knocking her on the ground. It sizzled through her skin and she groaned in agony.
