Chapter 11 // Gang

Dani's POV

Hey quick question 

To: Luke 

Shoot

Do you want to hang out with everyone again? 

To: Luke

Yeah sure that would be great 

It's been a couple of days since Christmas and this is the first time Luke has texted me since then. After we got interrupted by Melanie, Luke hasn't brought it up or even tried again. After we ate dinner I just sat in the living room watching him play video games with Sammy and his brothers. We opened presents and they went home. Nothing else. 

It surprised me that Luke wanted to hang out with everyone again. I knew he missed the guys but I didn't think he would invite me to hang out with them. My phone buzzed again, notifying me that Luke texted back. He told me to come to Michael's house. I drove over there and was about to go inside but then Mike and Luke came outside into my car. "Hey Dani!" Mike said. I said hi to them and put the car in drive. "Dani, can I drive?" Luke asked. 

"No, why do you want to drive my car?" I asked. 

"I haven't in a while and I miss your golf cart." 

"It's not a golf cart. It's better than your car."

"Come onnnnnnnnnnn." He begged. "It's been such a long time since you let me drive your car." I thought about it for a little. I sighed. 

"Fine."

"Why is he driving?" Violet said as she got into the car. 

"He wanted to drive my car." 

"Ok. But why did you let him?" She questioned. I laughed and shrugged. Luke drove to Ashton's house. While we were waiting for Ashton, Luke turned off the car. "We gotta switch cars." He said. I looked at him very confused. 

"Why? There's one more space for Ash." I replied. Everyone got out of the car, ignoring what I said. I got out of the car as well. They walked over the Ash's -bigger- car. As I was walking over there, someone covered my eyes. "Who is this?" I exclaimed. 

"Guess." I heard Mike say. 

"Ashton?" I guessed. 

"Nope." I heard a voice say. I pried the hands off my face and turned around to see who it was. "CALUM!!" I immediately hugged him tight. He hugged me back instantly. "I missed you." 

"I missed you too Dani." When we let go of each other I turned to see Luke's smile had disappeared. As he walked to Ash's car, his facial expression was different. Ash drove, Violet was in the passenger seat while Mike and Luke were in the middle row and Cal and I were in the back.  We all caught up, telling each other about college and life in general. The gang was finally all back together.

After going out to eat, Ash drove back to his house. Ash and Violet stayed at his house. So I- well Luke- drove Mike and Cal home. We dropped off Mike then Cal off. Cal told me to text him when I got home and same to Luke. As we said goodbye, I saw Luke's smile fade yet again. I didn't question it though. The drive back home was quiet. He pulled into my driveway then shut the car off. We both sat there in silence. 

"Did you feel like tonight was awkward?" He finally said. 

"No." I honestly said. He turned to me. 

"Seriously?" 

"Yeah. I didn't feel like it was awkward. It felt nice. It felt like old times." 

"Except us dating." 

"Well it felt like older times." I laughed a bit. 

"I'm sorry if I made it feel awkward."

"Luke don't be sorry you didn't do anything wrong." 

"I'll see you later." He said and got out of the car. I got out of the car as well. I watched him walk away and not turn around. Once he went inside, I went inside too.

I woke up the next day with a text. 

From: Luke 

Hey 

I texted him back and got a reply back immediately. 

To: Luke 

Whatcha up to?

We continued to text even while I was running errands. It felt nice. It felt like we were friends again. It didn't feel awkward. We had a nice flowing conversation. The types of conversations where you didn't have an awkward pause. The type of conversation where the conversation just flows continuously with no problem from topic to topic. It was that type of conversation. One we haven't had in a year. 

It lasted from the morning till late at night. I felt like a teenager again, staying late up at night talking to my crush. 

From: Luke 

I'll text you tomorrow then 

To: Luke 

Okay, goodnight sweet dreams 

From: Luke 

Goodnight 

Wait, can I ask you something? 

To: Luke 

Yeah what? 

From: Luke 

You wanna come over tomorrow?
