Dani's POV
"Dani, it's time to get up! You need to help me with the food!" I heard my mom call. I rolled out of bed, barely opening my eyes. I went into the bathroom to take a quick shower, changed into some comfy clothes, then went downstairs. My mom was in the kitchen by the stove while Sammy was stirring what looked like cake mix in a bowl at the counter. "Good morning." I said. They both turned around to greet me.
"Good morning? More like good afternoon!" My mom laughed at her own joke. When she noticed that she was the only one laughing, she stopped and proceeded to say, "Dani, I need you to go to the store to buy some things that I need." She handed me a list and the car keys. I took them from her hands and went out the door.
As I was driving, a car was about to pass me and it started honking. I looked closely and saw it was Luke and Michael. I waved at them as they waved back. Once we passed each other, I saw my phone light up in the cup holder. I stopped at the red light and quickly looked at the message.
From: Luke
We were just talking about you
To: Luke
Good or bad?
I continued to drive and eventually arrived at the store. I got out of the car and looked at my phone. Luke replied to my message with the girl shrugging emoji.
To: Luke
Oh didn't know you were a girl
From: Luke
I do like to gossip
I chuckled at his response.
To: Luke
Since when has Mike in town?
From: Luke
He just came back
To: Luke
Oh I didn't know that
I put my phone in my pocket. I walked into the store to look for what my mom had sent me for.
As I was looking for the last and final thing, I felt someone tap my shoulder. I turned around and was greeted by bright blue eyes. "Hey Dani." Collin smiled. I forced a smile back. I haven't replied to Collin in a while. I felt bad about it but if I have a chance to get back with Luke, I didn't want to jeopardize it.
"Hey Collin."
"How are you? Haven't seen you since school ended."
"I'm good, how are you?"
"I'm good. What are you doing for Christmas?"
"Dinner at my house."
"That's awesome."
"What are you doing in Sydney? I thought you lived farther away?"
"I do, just visiting some relatives." He smiled.
"That's nice." I was about to end the conversation but he cut me off.
"We should hang out soon." He blurted out.
"Maybe! I'll let you know!" I forced a smile, causing him to smile.
"Sounds great. I'll see you around, Dani." He turned and left the aisle. I sighed and got the last thing I needed off the shelf.
