Chapter 20 // Diner

Dani's POV

"Hello?" I answered the phone once I was in the hallway. 

"Hey." I heard a soft voice from the other end. 

"Hi." I barely spoke. 

"How are you?" 

"I'm good." 

"Good." There was an awkward silence between us. 

"How are you?" I asked. 

"Good too." 

"Good." Another awkward silence between us. At the same time we both started talking. 

"So, I-"

"So, why'd you-"

We both stopped and apologized for cutting each other off. The awkward silence came upon again.

"Listen.. I called you because I need your advice again." 

"About what?"

"My dad.." 

"Oh." 

"Yeah... So I know you hate me right now-"

"I don't hate you, Luke." I cut him off. 

"Well, I need advice and rather talk about this in person. So, can we meet up one of these days?" He asked.

"Sure." I automatically blurted out. 

"Okay great. Thank you." He responded. 

"When should we meet?"

"Well when are you free?" 

"We can get meet up tomorrow after my last class. Maybe get some food?" I offered. 

"Yeah that's good. What time?" 

"I get out at 15:15." 

"Perfect. You wanna go to the diner?" 

"Yeah. I'll meet you there after my class then." 

"Perfect.. I'll see you tomorrow then?" 

"Yeah. See you then." 

"Bye Dani." 

"Bye Luke." I hung up the phone. I took a deep breath and realized that all I said was out of impulse and was now nervous about meeting up with Luke. I went back into my room and saw Evie take her earbuds out. 

"Where'd you go?" She asked. 

"In the hall." I told her, connecting my phone back to the charger. I tucked myself back into bed. 

"Why did you have to take the phone call in the hall?" 

"It was my mom and I didn't want to bother you." 

"You sure? It seemed important." 

"I'm sure. It wasn't that important." 

"Okay Dani... Whatever you say." She finished interrogating me and put her earbuds back in. I laid down in bed and tried to replay what happened over the phone. I was getting even more nervous about meeting up with him. I tried to play many scenarios in my head which made me fall into a deep sleep.

I waited impatiently for Luke in a booth of the diner. I kept shaking my leg under the table and every time I realized I did that, I would stop but then start again unintentionally. I looked out the window and saw Luke walking towards the diner. I started panicking a bit but tried to calm myself down. I heard the door open and I looked up from my lap. He was looking around the diner to find me. Once his eyes found me in the booth, he smiled a bit then walked towards me.
