"That girl is me, Ayman, so why would you ask me out?I told him straight out that I would soon be on a hospital bed at this time on the twelfth day, but he ignored me and continued to look at old photos of us.

"So what?I do not care; I know you like me and I like you, which is the best feeling," he confessed again, and I smiled, but what if??

On the 12th day
***After the operation**
Ayman:
As my parents and I sat outside her room, I could not help but think of her father's story, which he had told me before Anisa's surgery. She had been unconscious for a few hours, and the doctors had said that the operation had been successful, but she would need time to recover because she had lost a lot of blood and would not be able to walk or speak. Wiping away my tears, I looked at my engagement ring. She had agreed to the engagement but had not agreed to our marriage because she was always putting me first.

When Mayra entered the picture, my mind went back over all the incidents and how hurt Anisa had been, but she never said a word or admitted anything. Her mother told me everything, and when I returned after 12 years, I asked her for the answers, and she gave them to me. I will now ask for forgiveness.

I gave it everything I had during those 12 days to see her smile, but her health was deteriorating gradually. She was growing weaker, we stayed inside the house in the final days before her surgery, and she stopped talking to me. She told her mother that I should have been able to provide for her, but I knew that Allah might have planned for us to be together because otherwise, we would not have crossed paths after all 12 years.

I nodded and Aisha's mother came to sit next to me, saying, "She will be okay."

"I have hurt her a lot," I said.
and her smile expanded.

Her mother informed me about the days I missed while I was with Mayra. I told her how Mayra had cheated on me, and Anisa had forgiven her because life is short and if someone asks for forgiveness, we should forgive, she said. "I know, but she has forgiven you long time back even before you came she always talked about you she wanted you to be happy," she said. Then my mother entered the conversation.

"Dear, are you going to the Assar prayer with your uncle Imran and the others?"I never miss a prayer, especially Tahajjud, when she asked, and I nodded.

It was getting close to evening when the doctor emerged from Anisa's room, and we all hurried to see him. The doctors had been to her room a lot during the day.

"She has regained consciousness, but please do not stress her. I am glad she remembers that she has no memory loss, just a lack of speech, and she will be unable to walk for a few days. We will have to take her to physiotherapy," he concluded, and we nodded.

"One by one can visit her; make sure she gets plenty of rest and do not talk to her too much," the doctor grinned and departed.

After each visit, I still had not gone. What should I do now?As her fiancé, should I go inside, and will she want to see me?

I walked in slowly and prayed to Allah to please heal her quickly. I just stared at her as she lay on a hospital bed in a green gown. I did not need a mask, but they made me wear one anyway. She was staring at the other side, her hands covered in wires that connected to beeping machines. She was not even looking at me; all I could do was stare at her.

"Anisa," I called her as soon as I got close, but other people said there was still silence. They said she grinned and gave a brief response.

"Ayman, please go away," she said, pushing me away with a tear on her cheek. She clutched the bedsheet and did not even look at me once. I stared back, refusing to give up.
