"What time do you get off?"
I looked at the clock in the corner of the store and sighed.
"Two o'clock. One more hour to go."
Matt rubbed his hands over his face and looked as if he was about to pass out.
"You can go home. I know you're tired." I said quietly to him. He shook his head.
"Nah, I'd rather stay here with you."
I felt my cheeks start to heat up so
I went to the back of the store to make myself a smoothie. That was one good thing about working for Jamba Juice. You get all the free smoothies and snacks you want.
I quickly whipped up a strawberry banana smoothie and walked back over to Matt who looked completely adorable in his sweatpants.
He had been coming to work with me a lot lately to keep me company. Since I worked the slow shift, it got really lonely.
He looked up at me and gave me a gentle smile. I took a second to absorb this moment. It wasn't even times where we were kissing that I really enjoyed, but the moments where we were loving each other's presence. Just being with him made me a happier person. It didn't matter if he wasn't paying any attention to me. Him being near me gave me joy.
"Did you party a little too hard last night?" I giggled.
He smirked at me and rolled his eyes. I knew that Matt went out last night so I automatically assumed that he went to a party. I guess I was right.
"I didn't think I would get a hangover from only a few drinks," He groaned.
"Weeeell," I laughed. "I guess your tolerance isn't as high as you thought it was."
He looked at me as if I was crazy and shook his head. "I am an eighteen year old boy. My tolerance is fine, thank you very much."
-
I walked into my apartment and threw myself on the couch. Matt followed behind me and hovered his body over mine.
"So I just had an epiphany," He whispered.
I raised one eyebrow at his choice of words and motioned for him to continue.
"We come home everyday and immediately put on sweatpants. We then walk to the couch and turn on a movie. This has been going on for almost two months now. I believe that it's time for us to go out."
I gave him an unimpressed look. "You do realize that means I have to actually get dressed, right? Do you realize how much work that is?"
Matt threw his head back and let out a loud laugh.
"Nina Marie, I don't think I've met a girl lazier than you. And trust me, I have met lots of-"
"Okay, okay. Fine. I will go out." I huffed. He gave me a big cheesy smile and pecked me on the cheek.
"Atta girl," He said with a wink.
I rolled my eyes and stood up, already starting to unbutton my work uniform. Once I reached my bedroom, I stripped down and stood in front of my closet. Since it was starting to get chilly again, I put on a pair of dark jeans and a beige sweater. I wore my black ankle boots with it and quickly re-did my hair before walking out into the living room. Matt had already gotten ready and come back in my apartment.
"Look at you, all dolled up!" Matt babbled at me. I did my signature eye roll and he did his signature laugh, sending chills down every inch of my
body.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"Now that," He replied. "Is a surprise."
-
We walked into the restaurant and were led to a booth. I took my seat and looked up at Matt. I gave him an awkward smile and let out a little laugh.
"Sorry, I, uh, know this is really awkward. I just don't want you to think, you know." He said quietly. I looked at him quizzically. "I don't what you to think that I'm with you all the time because I want to hook up with you."
I shook my head. "Matt, you know that I would never think that. Whatever I said and did when I was drunk was not me." I said clearly.
He sighed. "People always say that when you're drunk you're blatantly honest."
"Well guess what? I think that's bullshit." I laughed. "In the two months that I've known you, have I ever been the kind of person to lie about my feelings?"
He quickly shook his head no. I gave him an 'I told you so' look and then took a sip of my Coke. He chuckled lightly to himself and looked up at me.
"Nina, I really like you. A lot." He said, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand.
I immediately felt my cheeks turn to a bright red color and I smiled.
"Matt, I really like you too. A lot."
