Do you know that feeling when you wake up from a really long nap and you think that you slept for days? Imagine that actually happening, except you were asleep for six months. That's what happened to me.
I'm Nina Peterson and I have amnesia.
My whole life is a blur. Everything that I lived through is now a distant memory, which some say is good. A woman who informed me that she was my aunt told me that my father died when I was twelve. It apparently took a major toll on me. When I was in the car crash, my mother and little sister died. I was the only one that survived out of my whole family, so now 'Aunt Emily' is all I have left.
"I really think it would help if you stayed with me for a while. You know, until you get a little bit of your memory back." She said as I sat on my hospital bed. I still wasn't allowed to leave because they wanted to make sure my health was superb.
"I think it's best if I go home." I said quietly as I looked over at her. She had concern drawn all over her face.
"Well, alright." She sighed. We sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity. That's when I remembered.
"Emily? Who was that boy that was sleeping in my room when I woke up?" I questioned. My brow was furrowed and my head was cocked slightly to the side.
She let out another loud sigh. She was a big fan of those. She must've taken theater in high shook because damn, she was dramatic.
"He was your, um, boyfriend. His name is Nate."
I froze. I had a boyfriend?
My heart hurt for this boy because I knew he had to be upset. I mean, I don't know how long we had been dating or how serious the relationship was, but it had to be more than a fling if he was still waiting for me after six months.
"How, um, how long were we dating?"
"You started dating about a year and a half ago. You had just celebrated your one year anniversary when the, uh, incident happened." Emily said in her very soothing voice. She could talk me to sleep by reading me her grocery list.
I didn't even know what to say. Because of that, I used the most educated word known to man.
"Oh."

I walked into my apartment and looked around. Everything was perfect. I could tell that someone had come in and cleaned. No one keeps their house this clean.
It had a very open concept. When I walked in the door, the living room was to my right. To the left was a kitchen that was very modern. It was all dark brown and red. I guess that was my 'theme' for the apartment.
When I turned to my right, there was a hallway. I walked down and went into the first door on the left, which was a bathroom. It had a red shower curtain and towels perfectly hung.
At the end of the hallway, there was a door that I'm guessing was the bedroom. When I walked in, I expected to see a nicely made bed and maybe a little nightstand, but I was wrong. There was a nicely made bed, there was a little nightstand, but there was also something else.
A boy around my age, sound asleep on the bed.
I suppose that he was watching television because a movie was on in the corner of the room. I didn't scream or jump like I probably should have, but instead I decided to investigate.
I scurried over to the side of the bed he was laying on. I analyzed his outfit. He was wearing a white t-shirt that had a black pocket on it and khaki pants. His red vans were sitting on the ground next to the bed. His dirty blonde hair was styled up into a perfect quiff and his mouth was slightly open as he slept. If we're being blatantly honest here, he was pretty attractive.
I leaned in to take in every detail about him. I bent my knees and slowly lunged my body forward, when a pair of brown eyes opened in front of me.
I jumped back and squealed like a little girl. In the process of being entirely too wimpy, I tripped over his shoes and fell backwards onto the dark hardwoods.
The boy quickly sat up and tried to hold back his laughter from my petty fall.
"Hi, uh, who are you?" He asked throughout his giggles.
"I am one hundred percent positive that I should be asking you that question." I snarked with a grouchy look on my face. I stood up and crossed my arms over my chest.
The boy stopped what he was doing and gaped at me as if I was his dead mother coming back to life.
"Holy shit. It can't be you." He said.
"I'm sorry to be a total bitch here, but I lost all my memory so I have no idea who the hell you are. I would kind of like to know since you were just taking a power nap on my bed." I said as I unravelled my arms from my chest and placed one on my hip.
"Uh, I'm Matthew. You can call me Matt, though." He said with a warm smile. He held his hand out for me to shake, but I just looked at it.
"Okay, Matt, why are you in my apartment on this fine June morning?"
"I, uh, your aunt. She pays me to come in here a few times a week to just make sure nothing is stolen and to clean or whatever. I guess I fell asleep. But, uh, yeah. I'm your neighbor. My apartment is right across the hall from yours." He replied. I stood there and analyzed him for the second time that day. He awkwardly looked at me and kept trying to look somewhere else, but gave up when he realized that I was glaring directly at him.
"Do you want me to leave?" He said quietly with his voice getting higher at the end. He pointed at the door and slowly started inching towards it.
"That'd be nice." I said with a sarcastic smile on my face. He pursed his lips together and started to walk out.
"Wait, Matt." I said. He turned around and looked at me.
"You might want your shoes."
He chuckled slightly and walked back in. He grabbed his Vans and began walking out the door when I stopped him again.
"Oh, and Matt?" I said. He rolled his eyes and turned around.
"My name is Nina."
"I know your name." He said as he raised his eyebrows. He then left without a single goodbye.
