I felt my tears hit my already damp cheeks.
"Can I please make one phone call? You can hear the whole thing, I swear." I begged.
"This isn't jail, sweetheart." The girl said in a condescending tone.
"Please," I asked. "It's really important."
I didn't even need to try and cry so that I could get some pity, because the tears were coming naturally.
"Just give let her have her goddamn phone call, Malia." The boy said, which I guessed was Nate.
She let out a sigh before walking over to me and handing me my phone. I quickly unlocked it and tapped on Matt's name.
It rang once before he eagerly answered.
"Hey, babe, where are you?"
I held in my tears so that I didn't scare him.
"Matt, I need to tell you something."
"Okay?" He said slowly. I could practically taste the caution in his voice.
"I love you. Like, I really love you. I want you to know that."
He let out a sigh. "I love you too."
It made me want to cry that I could hear how happy he was. I could hear the enthusiasm he had from me saying that.
"Matt, I love you. I want you to remember that."
"Nina, what the hell is going on?" He asked in a very frustrated tone. I could hear the strain in his voice from being sick.
"I love you."
I accidentally let out a small sob. I quickly inhaled and covered my mouth in hopes of keeping the rest in.
"Bloody hell, Nina." He replied quickly. I could hear him moving around frantically.
"I'm gonna find you. Don't worry."
"I love you." I said one last time.
"I love you too. Don't forget that."
I hung up my phone and placed it on the table.
"How did lover boy react to your confession of love?" Malia asked.
"That's none of your goddamned business," I replied. "But it went perfect."
