I would been lying if I said that life went back to normal for me once I woke up. Everyone treats me like I am some sort of alien, but to be honest, I don't need their pity. I am eighteen years old. I can handle whatever life decides to throw at me.
Everyone also says that I'm a different person. Well, not to my face, but I hear them say it. Apparently I was a lot more quiet and modest back in the day, and not a complete wild card. I can't help it if I just want to have some fun, though. Life is life. Sometimes you just need a break.
I was sat on my couch watching some sort of murder mystery show when there was a knock on the door. There were basically only two people that this could be since I had no friends, and since my aunt was out of town, I knew who it was before I got to the peephole. I flung the door open and gave him a questioning look.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"Uh, I just wanted to see if you wanted to chill, but it looks like you're a little busy." He said motioning to my attire (which was sweatpants and a white crop top) and the television.
"Why would you want to 'chill' with me anyway? Wouldn't blondie be upset if she found out?" I said raising my eyebrows. He laughed.
"'Blondie' isn't my girlfriend. She's just a girl I met. No big deal. Plus, her name is Tara. Wait, no, it's Sarah. Yeah, Sarah." He said unsure of himself. I looked at him as if he was the stupidest person I had ever come across and he laughed once more.
"Nina Peterson, your sass is too much to handle."
"Matthew Whatever-your-last-name-is, you're a complete man whore." I replied.
"I am not! I just like girls, okay?! Is that a problem?" He asked raising one eyebrow at me.
"Well if your whole intention here is to get into my pants, it's not going to happen, so sorry for wasting your time. Just because I lost my memory doesn't mean I lost my common sense." I snapped.
"What is that supposed to mean? Goddamn, Nina. You make it so hard to try and be your friend. I'm sorry that I felt a little bad since you lost everything."
"I didn't lose everything, and I don't need your pity! Do you seriously think that you are the one putting forth all the effort? You're not! You're pretending that I'm some sort of basket case that needs someone like you to come in and fix everything, but I am completely fixed! I have my life back, and I don't want you in it!" I screamed. He stared at me as if he was studying every piece of me. From every last strand of hair to every last freckle.
"That doesn't mean I'm gonna stay out of it." He said quietly. "Nina Peterson, I will be in your life always, whether you like it or not, so I suggest you start warming up to me sometime soon." He said with a smile and a wink. With that, he turned around and walked back to his room. Just when he was about to shut the door, he stuck his head out one last time.
"Espinosa. My last name is Espinosa."
