I woke up to my doorbell ringing. I rolled over and looked to my left, seeing that Matt was dead asleep next to me.

Saying that my apartment was broken into a few weeks before, I was cautious to go answer it. I tapped Matt on the shoulder lightly.

"Babe," I whispered quietly. "There's someone at the door."

He sat up and looked around, grabbing the pair of sweatpants from the floor and a t-shirt. He quickly ran down the hallway and to the door. I grabbed a pair of athletic shorts from my drawer and followed him.

When I got to the door behind him, there were two policemen standing on the other side. My heart began to speed up. What happened?

"Hello, are you Ms. Peterson?" The first officer said, who's name badge read SAMUELS.

"Uh, yes?" I gulped.

"Hi, we have a report on the break-in that occurred a few weeks ago."

I shared a glance with Matt and we both took a deep breath.

"Okay?"

"There were two people that entered your house. Their names were Nate Heely and Malia Hale. Do those names ring a bell to you?"

"I don't think-"

"Yes, we know them." Matt said quickly. I sent him a confused look and he brushed it off.

"Well, that opens up a new chapter of the investigation. Since they broke in and didn't take anything or leave anything as we know, they were obviously looking for something. They either didn't find what they were looking for, or they were looking for you." The second officer said, pointing at me.

I sent a worried glance at Matt again, this time pulling myself closer to him and tucking my head into his chest.

"I know this is a lot to handle right now, but it would help a lot if you could come down to the station sometime this week and answer a few questions. Here is the address and the phone number." He said, handing Matt a sheet of paper.

"Thank you, sir. We will be down there soon." He replied with a nod. They all said their goodbyes and I heard the door shut.

Matt pulled away from me and looked me in the eye.

"Hey, it's gonna be okay. I'm sure they're not looking for you." He whispered.

I pulled away from him and went over to my couch, curling up into a ball. He soon followed and sat down next to me, tracing his name onto my skin with his fingers.

"Who were they?" I asked.

He cleared his throat and took a deep breath.

"Well um, Nate? Does that name not ring a bell to you?"

I shook my head again.

"Well he was your boyfriend. You know, the one who cheated on you. And the girl that they mentioned was the girl he's with now."

I sat up and pulled my knees up to my chest.

"Did he cheat on me with Malia?" I questioned. He gave me a small nod.

"Matt, this isn't good." I said, getting tears in my eyes.

He nodded again. "I know."

"They were looking for me."

"I know."

"If they get to me, they're gonna hurt me." I said, this time tears running down my face.

He paused. "I know."

He turned towards me and grabbed my hands, looking straight at me.

"But I'm not gonna let that happen."

short yeah I know but I'm having to cut them down a bit so that this book doesn't take ten years to finish lol

but yeah basically Malia and Nate are apparently looking for Nina but who knows why????

god I'm a mean person I should go to church more often

but yeah the next chapter will be lots of info but you won't get to meet Nate or Malia for a while so don't get yo hopes up
