Beyonce's POV

"In high school, as you know, I was captain of the cheerleading team. Well, Lyndell was star of the basketball team. So naturally, everyone thought that we should be together. But I never saw us that way. We were friends, and I thought he was attractive, but we were very different people.

He was your stereotypical high school star athlete. He could have any girl he wanted, he liked to party, he didn't care about grades or anything - he did what he needed to do to still be able to play and that was about it.

Me on the other hand, I was a real goody goody. I had dreams to be a nurse so I put everything into school and got straight As. I never had a boyfriend because I was too focused on my school work. I never really partied. Partly because I had little interest and partly because Tina and Mathew didn't play that. I was real shy and quiet, except when I was cheering. When I was cheering, I owned the stadium, field, gym, whatever it was. But besides that I was happy being Kelly's quiet sidekick.

But like I said, Lyndell and I were friends. We were always around each other because he was on the basketball team and I was on the cheerleading team since freshman year. Plus our houses were just down the road from each other. He was the type of guy who could make anyone laugh, and he was always nice to me."

Kelly and I stood in our school's gym downing our bottles of water. Our basketball team had just won the first game of the season and everyone was hype, so needless to say we went extra hard cheering for them.

Most of the audience had left the gym by now so it was just us and the team still in there. The guys were all still celebrating and had Lyndell lifted up on their shoulders. I rolled my eyes and laughed, "They don't need to be making that boy's head any bigger than it already is."

Kelly laughed, "I know that's right."

They eventually put him down and he ran over to high five all of the cheerleaders. When he got to me he gave me a big hug and lifted me up. I laughed, "Put me down fool!" He did and stepped back to look at me and Kelly. "Y'all coming out tonight to celebrate?"

"Where's everyone going?" Kelly asked.

"Tyrell's having a party at his place, his parents are outta town and he got his older brother to get us mad alcohol."

I laughed and rolled my eyes. "As much as I'd love to be there to see the cops bust Tyrell's house party, I got some studying to do. Good game though."

"But Bey-," Kelly looked at me with puppy dog eyes.

"Hey I never said you couldn't go!"

"No you're right I ain't tryna get killed by my parents - we'll see you in school on Monday Lyndell," Kelly said.

He looked at me, clearly disappointed, "Alright, alright I'll see y'all on Monday." We turned to walk to the locker room when he called out, "Hey, Bey wait, I wanna talk to you real quick!"

I paused, "I'll meet you in there, Kel." She kept walking and I went back to see what Lyndell wanted, I was assuming something related to help with school work. I would go over his house from time to time to help him with school work but it usually ended up as me doing school work and him trying to distract me from doing school work.

"What's up?"

"Bey, I was...I was just thinking..." This was the first time I'd ever seen him, Lyndell, star of the basketball team, be nervous about anything, let alone talking to me.

"Yes Lyndell?"

"I was thinking, would you wanna maybe go to the homecoming dance with me? I mean let's be real we're probably gonna win homecoming king and queen anyway, we might as well go together."

Wow. I was definitely not expecting that. "You don't already have like, a million date offers?"

He chucked, "Well you certainly think very highly of me," he said brushing his shoulders off. I just laughed and rolled my eyes at him.

"...but I was waiting to ask you," he said.

I smiled. I honestly wasn't even thinking of going to the homecoming dance but it would probably be fun. I know it would make Kelly happy. And it's my senior year, so my last chance.

"Yes, I'll go to homecoming with you. But...are we going as friends or..."

He interrupted me, "I was hoping as a date."

I smiled and felt butterflies flutter in my stomach. I had never been on a date before. And I couldn't lie and say I didn't have a tiny crush on him, I mean basically every girl at this school did. "Then it's a date."

"That's what's up!" He gave me a big hug and I melted into his embrace.

I pulled back after a minute and raised one eyebrow at him, "Don't think you'll be getting me into a hotel room or any of that nonsense afterwards."

He faked looking shocked, "Damn Bey, have a little faith in me, it's nothing like that!"

I held my hands up, "Alright, alright, just making sure! Ok, lemme go find Kelly. Have fun at your party, see you Monday!"

Present Day

Skai looked at me like she was thinking about something, "Wait...ok so if you slept with him when you were seventeen how could he be my father because I'm only fifteen now and this was twenty years ago?"

"Girl we got a ways to go...I told you this was a long story."
