Beyoncé's POV
I rolled my eyes as I scrolled through seemingly endless emails on my computer at work.
My phone started ringing and I immediately answered when I saw that it was Skai. It was only 1 pm so she should still be in school so something must be wrong.
"Hi baby is everything okay?" I answered.
"Mommy I think I'm dyyyyyyyyyyyying," she groaned. "Can you pick me up?"
"What's going on, are you sick?"
"Mmmm hmm, I'm in the nurse's office, she thinks I have the flu," she said weakly.
I rubbed my hands over my face, "Alright I'm leaving now I'll be right there."
"Thank you mommy, love you."
"Love you too!" I said and hung up.
The flu was not what I needed in my life right now. Skai and I both got the flu shot since I work in a hospital but clearly it's not always 100% effective.
Shawn was supposed to come over after work tonight but I guess that wasn't going to be happening now. I'll call him later after Skai and I get home.
I shut off my computer and grabbed my laptop out of my desk drawer. I guess I can respond to emails at home just as well as I can at work. I paged all of the charge nurses from the individual floors of the hospital to let them know that I had to leave early and if anything happens, they're in charge.
I left work and headed to my car in the parking garage. Hopefully traffic wouldn't be too bad because it's the middle of the day but you never know with New York.
I got to Skai's school about a half an hour later and stopped by the visitor's desk in the main office.
"Name?" the lady sitting at the desk asked me.
"Beyoncé Knowles."
"Who are you here to see?" she asked, still not looking up from her computer.
"Skai Knowles...she's in the nurse's office."
She handed me a visitor sticker, still without looking up from her computer, and said, "first door on your left."
I turned to go and chuckled when I saw she was so glued to her computer for a game of solitaire.
I got to the nurse's office and saw Skai lying down looking like death.
"My poor baby," I said sitting down next to her. I put my hand on her head and she was burning up. "Think you'll be able to make it out to the car?"
She nodded weakly and I took her hand to help her up. I thanked the school nurse and grabbed Skai's backpack to carry it for her as we left out.
Skai slept pretty much the whole short drive home but she's too big for me to be carrying her in the house so I gently woke her up once we got home.
"You want something to eat baby? I can pick up some chicken noodle soup," I said as we walked into the house.
She nodded her head no. "I just wanna lie down," she said as she dragged her feet into my room. I laughed, ever since she was little Skai always wanted to be laid up under me whenever she was sick and she never really grew out of it. Not that I'm complaining, she's my baby.
I grabbed my laptop and decided to change into some comfier clothes before lying down with her to finish answering these emails.
After working for about an hour, of course Skai was passed out, so I decided now would be a good time to call Shawn.
