Beyoncé's POV

As soon as I said the word "hospital," Shawn jumped into action. He ran into the bathroom and picked her up in his arms and brought her down to his car. Luckily I lived closely to the hospital so it would be a quick drive. The whole drive I sat next to Skai just checking her pulse and her breathing. Shawn and I rode in silence, both of us two scared to speak.

When we got to the hospital Shawn pulled up the the ER entrance and let me out with Skai while he went and parked the car.

I ran into the hospital carrying Skai to be greeted by Tasha, the front desk secretary for the ER. From working here so long I pretty much knew everyone around here. Tasha was a sweet girl but we didn't see each other enough to be that close.

"Hey Tasha, my daughter has been sick since yesterday, I think with the flu, and then she started throwing up and then she passed out and I got her to wake up for a second but she was confused and short of breath and now she won't wake up," I rambled.

Tasha gave me a worried look and frantically reached to page the ER doctor on call, "Nicki, Beyoncé is here, her daughter is unresponsive."

I smiled in relief hearing that Nicki would be taking care of Skai. She was a nurse practitioner so she covered the ER sometimes.

Next thing I knew, Nicki was running out to us. "Bey, what happened to my baby?" she asked, sounding concerned.

I explained everything to her as she walked us back into the room. I quickly texted Shawn letting him know where we were so he could meet us when he was done with the car.

"Like you said, with her being sick and not eating or drinking much she's probably severely dehydrated but I'm going to take some bloodwork and have them run it stat before I do anything, just to be safe."

I nodded and smiled, "Thank you, Nicki."

She took some blood then went to the lab to have them get the results. While she was gone Shawn ran in to meet us. "What's going on, what did they say so far?!" he asked.

"Nicki said she's probably severely dehydrated but she's getting her lab work right now just to check everything out before she does anything."

He nodded.

We waited for about five minutes in silence until Nicki came back in. I was standing up next to Skai holding her hand and Shawn was sitting in one of the chairs nervously bouncing his leg.

Nicki came back in with another nurse who started hooking Skai up with an IV.

"Beyoncé, Skai is in DKA," Nicki said while looking over her lab work.

"What's DKA?" Shawn said standing up before I could respond.

"Diabetic ketoacidosis," Nicki and I both answered.

"What? I didn't know she was diabetic," Shawn replied.

"She wasn't...but type 1 diabetes can still develop when you're a teenager or young adult."

"Her blood sugar was in the 400s and her blood was positive for ketones," Nicki said handing me the paperwork.

I rubbed my hand over my face as I read over the lab work. "Shit."

"How serious is this?" Shawn said.

"We're giving her IV fluids, electrolytes, and insulin, we'll need to admit her and keep her here for a day or two to monitor her, but she'll be okay. You did the right thing bringing her here because it is fatal if left untreated," Nicki explained.
