Christmas is in six days.
I could feel a small imaginary weight on my shoulders every time I think mom and dad were still in New York. I swallow hard when I remember dad said they'd be gone for only a week.
I move a strand of hair out of my mouth and tuck it behind my ear, looking at my reflexion on the showcase of a random store. I pull the sleeves of my jacket closer to my hands, feeling my fingertips going red from the cold.
I stop in front of Hugo Boss. Taking a look inside, I decide to go in. I vaguely remember Damian once wearing Hugo Boss shoes which he seemed to like. I wonder around the small store, with the corner of my eyes noticing a man coming over to me.
"Hello, is there anything I can help you with?"
I spin myself around and look up at the man, who seemed to be in his late thirties.
I clear my throat. "Yeah, do you have any colognes?"
He smiled and nodded, directing me to an area behind the belts and shows me the male colognes. I thank him, spraying the testers on thick pieces of paper and shaking it so I can smell it.
After a couple of minutes, I decide to buy one for Damian and another one for my dad. I pay for it, then go on search of something for Jonas. I stop in front of a Calvin Klein store and end up buying him a belt. A couple of hours later, I was out of SWAG with two bags that contained a delicate bracelet for Larissa, a pair of earrings for my mom, and a thin silver necklace for Eleanor. I also bought a watch for Harry.
I bite my lips as I hold the bags tighter on my hands, a few people bumping into me in a rush, since it was Christmas Eve. Should I buy something for Elizabeth? I shake my head.
No.
She probably wouldn't get me anything, so why should I even bother. I get a cab and the driver drives home. Harry was on a break and so was most of the people that worked at my house, except for Eleanor and two other maids.
I got home with my feet freezing and place the bags on the sofa from the lounge, rubbing both of my hands together and flip on the light switch. It was only five in the evening but the sky was pitch black.
Eleanor peeks from the kitchen and smiles at me. I smile back at her, grabbing all of the bags and bringing them up to my room. After thirty minutes, I had wrapped all of the presents into a red and gold wrapping paper with a little note inside all of them. I finish taping the last small green Christmas bow onto Harry's present, before putting it under my bed with the rest of them.
I swallow hard, staring indecisively at my phone. Should I call them?
I pick up the phone and dial their phone number. It rings once, then twice, then again and then again, until it goes to voicemail.
Why weren't they answering me?
Mom and dad were supposed to be here by now!
