Home at Last

I pin Elena against the mattress.

"Ha. I win."

"Cheater." I smother her lips in another kiss. Suddenly the door pushes open and we quickly flash into our pajamas and lay in bed. There's a soft pad on the floor, then Wendy jumps up on the bed.

"Guess what day it is!"

"It's February I know that."

"Uh huh..." Elena smiles and looks at Wendy.

"Happy 6th birthday my darling." She giggles and we get up.

"I have a big day planned. First we get stuff for your room, then we go to Aunt Caroline and mine's favorite place on Earth, then we come back to the house. So go get dressed." She runs off and Elena smiles.

"Our little girl is growing up."

"Yes she is." Elena teasingly brushes her lips against mine. We shower then we go downstairs with Wendy.

"Ember we're going out."

"Okay." We go to the mall and we take Wendy to the Disney store. She gasps at everything. She's taking a particular liking to Peter Pan. Oh the irony. We guide her over to the beds. She jumps on a queen sized blue one with 4 normal pillows, a body pillow, and 4 ruffled pillows and a blue cover all around it.

"Daddy can I get this one?"

"Sure you can princess." She picks out a white nightgown (again the irony) then she picks out a teal paint.

"Where's the bed?" She looks up at Elena.

"They're gonna deliver it to the house then we'll paint your room then you get to sleep in it." She runs over to a window with those freaky Barbie dolls.

"Mommy,Daddy, I want some of those!!!" She pulls us into the store and we laugh.

"How many can I get?"

"As many as you can fit in 2 baskets, then you can pick out their car and their house." She claps and runs over to the dolls. Elena and I sit around while Wendy runs around picking things out.

"Done!" She has boys in one basket and girls in the other.

"Now you and I are gonna go pick out some outfits." She squeals then pulls Elena over to the outfits.

"Now pick out the car and the house you want." She picks up a blue convertible.

"Now the house." She pulls me over to a big house with like... 7 floors.

"Are you sure princess?" She nods excitedly.

"Let's checkout." They deliver her house to the boarding house and we head home. We pull up as the delivery guys leave. Elena and I push the box up the stairs. We unwrap her bed after we finish painting. Of course it quickly dries. We put her bed together then we make it. She jumps in it and smiles up at us, her blue eyes glistening.

"This was the best birthday ever!" She smiles up at us.

"We'll call you down for dinner. You can play with your new stuff with Quinn and Beth. And remember to always share." She nods and Elena goes down in the kitchen. I make dinner and she sits on the counter drinking a 1981 wine. Ember and Xavier come downstairs.

"What the hell?"

"What?"

"You never got me any of that stuff!"

"You weren't a girly girl Ember. You didn't want any of that stuff."

"Touché." She heads back upstairs with Xavier when there's a knock on the door.
