"Midori, arrived at point D."
"Sasuke, arrived at point B."
"Sakura, arrived at point C."
"Naruto, arrived at point A."
"You're slow Naruto. Okay 7th unit...huh, the target has moved. After it."
"Okay, he's there."
"What's the distance to the target?"
"Five meters. I'm ready to go."
"I am too."
"Me too."
"*sigh* me too?"
"Okay.... Go!"
The four genin all dashed towards the target, Naruto catching it. Sadly it now wanted to scratch his face off. A cat, all this trouble for a cat. Sighing Midori took the cat from Naruto, instantly it started purring against her.
"Does it have a ribbon on its right ear? Is it oir target, Tora?" Kakashi asked through the radio. "It's the target for sure." Sasuke answered.
"Okay. 'Operation capture Tora the lost pet' complete."
"Isn't there a more exciting mission we can work on?!" Naruto blasted all their ears off, good thing Midori decided to use her powers to communicate instead. She was hesitant to put that thing in her ear. As much as she cared for Naruto, he had the tendency to be too damn loud. They turned in their mission, Midori feeling pity for the cat as she was returned to her owner. Over the last couple of days they had been doing things that resembled chores more than missions. Midori didn't mind though, she relished in the time spent together with Kakashi and Naruto. Slowly they all saw her start to open up. Around her team her face wasn't nearly as emotionless anymore and sometimes they even saw her smile.
They all had grown closer, albeit mostly through fighting, but it was something. Something that Midori had never realised she missed. However it was evident that Naruto didn't feel exactly the same way.
After he had gone on a rant about wanting more exciting missions, the Hokage started to explain the mission ranking system. Which Naruto decided to ignore, instead choosing to talk about ramen, which the others in his team preferred listening to over the Hokage's lecture. After the groups attention went back to the old man Naruto decided the best corse of action would be to pout with puffed cheeks until he gave in.
Nobody actually expected him to though so the next words surprised them. "Okay, I understand. If you insist I will allow you to take on a C ranked mission. It's to escort a certain person. However Midori can't come with you."
As they stood before the Hokage to recieve their next mission they couldn't believe their ears. "What do you mean she's not coming with us!" Naruto exclaimed, Sasuke surprisingly added some words of his own "She's the only other person on this team that can actually do anything right."
Kakashi and Midori were both still looking at the Hokage in shock. Then he nodded to Kakashi to send the other genin out. They protested "I'm not leaving Midori-chan behind, it's unfair, we're a team, she belongs with us!" Sasuke and even Sakura nodded to Naruto's words. Although the pinkhead held no love for Midori, she knew that Midori's strength would be valuable.
"Kids, leave." The jounin had no choice but to send them away, although they were indeed a team, he knew where the conversation was going, and that those three couldn't be a part of it. They looked at him shocked but followed his orders and left. Leaving Kakashiand Midori behind in the room.
The Hokage then sent all the others away, they looked insulted but left regardless. Now they were alone. Sarutobi Hiruzen sighed, this was not a conversation he wanted to have but he decided it was best to get it over with a quickly as possible.
