The group had decided to all sit down on a patch of grass hoping it would help Midori feel more comfortable. It did, and although she remained seated closely to Kakashi, she was notably more relaxed then she was before.
Seeing the improvement Kakashi decided that now would be a good time to start asking her some questions. "Midori, how did you know where I was when you hugged me?"
Anyone would be able to see she was blind but she seemed to know where everything was at all times. And although she never looked them in the eyes she definitely had her eyes aimed at their faces whenever she heard someone speak.
Midori was a bit puzzled at how to answer though so she hoped they would somehow understand. "The air shows me everything." To say the team of shinobi was confused would be an understatement.
"What do you mean Midori?" Kakashi asked to which she replied "I know where everything the air touches is." hoping this would make it easier to understand. They started to at least which was an improvement.
"So the air showed you where I was standing?" Kakashi asked. She nodded in response and he continued to ask her questions to further understand this power she seemed to have. "Does the air always show you where everything is?"
Midori nodded again and Kakashi figured out the air acted as her eyes in a way and the breaks in the air told her where an object was even if she couldn't hear, feel or smell it.
"How long has the air been doing that?" The question wasn't hard to answer so Midori did so quickly "For as long as I can remember." However feeling a bit braver she decided to tell them more about her power.
"I can move the air as well and dissolve into it." The shinobi started to get more and more intrigued so Kakashi asked for a demonstration. Midori nodded and complied.
Kakashi was nice to her and she wanted to, not only repay him, but make it so he wouldn't leave her as well. In this short amount of time she had already become attached to him and hoped that, by pleasing him, she would be allowed to stay by his side.
Suddenly the wind started picking up, wildly rustling the leaves. They looked at her only to see her green eyes glowing brightly while she sat calmly. They we're incredibly surprised to say the least.
It seemed to be some kind of bloodline limit but they didn't know how something like that was possible without using any handsigns and they were sure she hadn't made any.
Then all of a sudden she disappeared, they could still sense her but it seemed like she was all around them. Literally the air itself. As sudden as she had disappeared she reappeared in the exact spot she had been before.
Now having seen this there was no doubt in their minds that she spoke the truth about the air functioning as her eyes. "That was very impressive Midori." Kakashi praised causing her to smile at him.
Now came the questions he knew she wouldn't like but there was no use stalling.
"Midori who made those scars?" Immediately the air turned heavy. She was afraid that if she told them they wouldn't take her to Konoha anymore.
She knew about Konoha, seeing as the man that held her was a rogue from that village, and had known that was where they were from the moment the air showed the detail of the engravings on their headprotectors
However she knew she couldn't lie, not to Kakashi. "Orochimaru." Her voice was soft yet harsh adding to the surprise of the three men since they hadn't thought she could ever sound like that. So angry, so filled with hatred.
But there was no doubt that what surprised the jounins the most was that it had been Orochimaru. Kakashi didn't want to dig up any painful memories but he had to continue asking questions.
"How long were you held captive by him?" He asked hoping beyond hope that it wasn't as bad as he thought. It was worse. "For as long as I can remember." Midori answered her voice turning sad and heartbreaking.
How horrible it must have been to spend your entire life tortured, unloved, captive but she seemed so full of will to live. How could someone that never knew freedom go through all that and come out sane and hopeful. When all she knew was evil how did she stay good.
The three men had a newfound admiration for her seeing only now how strong Midori truly must be, not just mentally but physically as well, to endure all that she's been through.
They had heard enough, they would ask how she escaped some other day, for now they just wanted to take her to the village. All of them determined to, not only give her the happy life she deserves, but to protect her with theirs. To make sure that snake could never lay his hands on her again.
Kakashi and the others stood. "One last question, are you ready to go home?" His hand outstretched to her. Tears started filling her eyes and then she smiled so wide she thought her mouth might break. "Hai!" And so she took his hand ready to start a new chapter in her life.
