Today would be the day. The day Midori would get to know who her teammates would be. Who would be the team she would spend the rest of her genin days with and maybe even beyond that. Kakashi had told the Hokage that her level was much higher than a genin's but they both agreed it would be good for her to be on a team with children her age. They were slightly worried if she would be able to function in a team.
Kakashi had left early that morning to go to the Hokage where he and the other jounin would be able to observe the genin that would be assigned to them. This left Midori to once more travel to the academy on her own, she didn't mind though since she used the rooftops to get there she was able to avoid the villagers.
She aimed her empty gaze at the sky while she thought about her classmates, wondering who she'd be teamed up with. Of course she hoped she would be on the same team as Naruto but knew this might very well not be that case. She also wouldn't mind being on the same team as Kiba, Choji or Shikamaru, or maybe with the kind shy girl that smelled like lavender.
What she definitely didn't want though was to be on the same team as Sakura. The short amount of time they had had to spend together was already enough to last Midori a lifetime if you asked her.
When she arrived in the classroom she sat in her usual spot after greeting Naruto with a smile, happy that he had somehow passed, and the other three boys with a polite wave. They all returned the greeting but before Naruto had a chance to, Sakura and some other boy obsessed girl had stormed into the classroom arguing.
Midori already noticed Naruto had a crush on Sakura so wasn't surprised when his attention focused on her, forgetting to return the greeting. The arguing stopped and both their attention, and the attention of all the other girls in the class except Midori and the shy girl, turned to the source of their obsession.
It was a, from Midori's point of view, stupid argument about who would sit next to Sasuke. Naruto, jealous that he had the attention of his crush, jumped on the table in front of Sasuke starting a staring contest. Midori ignored the situation and turned her attention and face to the ceiling where she could sense people looking at the class, quickly figuring out Kakashi was one of them she mouthed some words. ~Found you Kashi-nii~ She had of course surprised the jounin with this and planted a proud smile on Kakashi's face. 'That's my little sister.' He thought.
Suddenly Midori's attention was ripped from the spying jounin and Hokage as another boy in her class accidentally bumped his elbow in Naruto's back causing him to lose his balance and tilt forward.
Midori sensed their lips connecting and giggled trying her hardest to refrain from laughing out loud. After the fangirls recovered from their shock they became angry with Naruto, after all he stole their beloved Sasuke's first kiss. The boys had pulled apart spitting and gagging.
The girls were just about to start beating Naruto up when Midori interfered. "If you want to get to Naruto you'll have to go through me." This scared most of them off but Sakura wasn't as easily deterred. Luckily before the situation could escalate Iruka came into the classroom and everyone returned to their seats.
"Starting today you're all official ninja's but you're all still new genin. It's going to get harder from here on. You will all be in a group of three, except for one group of four, where you'll accomplish missions under a jounin teacher. We've arranged the groups in a way that overall abilities will be equivalent. I will now announce them."
Everyone was listening carefully, hoping to be on a team with people they liked, and Midori was no exception. The first couple of groups were full of people she didn't know so it wasn't until the 7th that she truly payed attention.
"Team 7, Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura, Uchiha Sasuke and a fourth member will be in this team. Hatake Midori." Naruto was happy to have Midori and Sakura on his team but wasn't all too happy on having Sasuke there as well. Midori was happy to be with Naruto and, even though she didn't like Sakura, it was worth it if she could be on his team.
