Just like he had promised Kakashi was there to pick her up, on time, shocker. Midori instantly sped towards him glad to finally be out of that room full of people. "How was school?" He asked. "Boring." She replied, not wanting to waste her breath on mentioning her newfound enemy.
She quickly turned around hearing Naruto and quickly waved goodbye before continuing to walk with Kakashi. It's not that she didn't want to hang out with him, she just knew he had to train for tomorrow's test and didn't want him to get distracted. "Kashi-nii graduation is tomorrow so can we go train?"
Kakashi had completely forgotten that the test was so soon and he'd be getting a new team as well. "Midori if you don't pass tomorrow that's okay. After all you've only been in school for a day." She nodded showing she understood but still insisted she wanted to train so Kakashi led her towards one of the training grounds.
"Alright then what do you want to train." Kakashi asked once they had arrived. Midori thought for a second before answering. "Ninjutsu." Kakashi asked her if she knew all the different handsigns to which she nodded furiously after that he asked her if she knew the clone jutsu. A poof later there were ten shadow clones around her.
Kakashi was amazed to say the least, seeing as she had a lot of chakra he expected her to be able to make some clones but shadow clones. 'I really shouldn't be surprised since Orochimaru must have forcefully trained her.' He thought but he couldn't help but wonder what her skill level was after that display.
"Would you like to spar with me?" He asked figuring that was the easiest way to assess her skills. Midori nodded and dispersed her shadow clones taking up a fighting position. Kakashi waited for her to make the first move after getting into position himself but not before asking her not to use her power.
Her first move startled him however, her speed was at least close to his and before he could react a kick to his stomach had sent him flying back. Quickly recovering from his shock he dug his feet into the ground slowly skidding to a stop.
Midori looked towards him worried for a second but when she sensed he had recovered she returned to her fighting stance. This time Kakashi was prepared and blocked her blow turning it into an attack and block challenge.
Her taijutsu was definitely at jounin level but he wanted to see how she handled weapons as well so he jumped back and threw a kunai at her. Careful to aim at a non-lethal spot incase she couldn't dodge. Midori drew her fans and hit the kunai causing it to fall harmlessly to the ground.
Opening her fans she threw them at Kakashi but not before implementing them with windnatured chakra. He dodged them and they returned to her like boomerangs. So this part of the battle continued weapons being thrown, dodged and deflected after which Kakashi could only conclude her skill level with weapons was just as high as her taijutsu.
Next would be Ninjutsu he removed his headband from it's regular place over his eye and opened it, revealing his sharingan he wanted to know exactly what jutsu's she would be doing. He started making handsigns for an earth jutsu. Catching his drift Midori started making handsigns for her own fire jutsu. Just after finishing his own she could hear her name this unknown jutsu, blazing phoenix. And sure enough a giant phoenix made up of fire rose from the ground and flew towards him.
Midori herself had already dodged Kakashi's jutsu and hoped he would be able to do the same with hers. Luckily he could but only narrowly. He focused his gaze on the girl who made it and could instantly see that it had cost a lot of her chakra. If he was an actual enemy she could not have used it but he knew now her ninjutsu was on chunin level at least.
"That's enough for today. You did well Midori you're very strong." He definitely wasn't lying, she was strong probably just as strong as some of the jounin. She would definitely have no problem graduating tomorrow.
After their training they decided it was time to eat so Kakashi asked her what she'd like. Once again she sniffed the air picking up a scent just as delicious as ramen before dragging Kakashi in the direction of the scent once more.
Once they arrived Kakashi saw that they were standing in front of yakiniku barbeque. He took Midori's hand and walked into the slightly crowded shop looking for a quiet table. Midori however instantly picked up another scent. She recognised it as the dog and his owner she had met in her class before.
Shortly after recognising this scent her name was called. "Midori over here." Kakashi looked at her silently asking if it was okay to approach seeing as there seemed to be no table available. She nodded shortly before letting go of his hand and slowly approaching the boys. The other boy at the table smelled like a lot of different kinds of foods, mainly potato chips but not unpleasant, and she recognised him as the boy who had asked her if she had had any food with her. The dog owner smelled like dog obviously but it was mixed with a woodsy scent.
They had both seemed nice, non-threatening at the least but the reason she had the courage to approach was mainly because of the dog. She loved animals, although despising snakes, even though she never had gotten the chance to truly interact with them.
Once she was close the dog, who was hidden inside it's owner's vest, jumped on her. She quickly caught it before it fell and held it while it started licking her face causing a small smile to peek through her otherwise emotionless mask. Her eyes turned kind as the dog gave a soft bark. She had always been able to understand the birds she could sometimes hear chirping from inside her cell and it seemed to not be any different with the dog. ~I'm Akamaru, I like you what's your name?~
It's owner was just about to reprimand his furry friend when Midori answered. "I'm Midori and I like you too Akamaru." She said while petting his head. To say his owner was shocked would be an understatement. "You can understand him?" He asked to which Midori replied with a nod. "I'm Inuzuka Kiba and the guy next to me is Akimichi Choji." She gave a nod to both the boys before returning Akamaru to Kiba.
"Would you like to sit at our table? There's enough room." Choji suggested between bites. "That would be very nice." Kakashi had answered for her and had taken a seat at the table, leaving Midori no choice but to join as well.
Kakashi once again ordered for her and when the meat had arrived cooked it before placing it on her plate. It made her feel a bit helpless but the boys didn't even spare it a second look which eased her nerves some.
The rest of the dinner was filled with the occasional small talk. Mostly instigated by Kiba and Kakashi. "So are you ready for the test tomorrow Midori?" Kiba asked as politely as he could, he didn't want to scare the girl away, not after he found out she could understand Akamaru too.
She answered yes just as politely, afterwards asking him and Choji the same. Choji replied with an agreeing sound, too busy with chewing his food. Kiba replied more enthusiastically having noticed the girl asked little to no questions. "Of course, I was born ready. So do you have some type of bond with dogs too since you can understand Akamaru?" He asked hopeful.
"No, I can understand all animals." Midori answered, she started to warm up to the boys. One laidback and paying more attention to his food then the fact that she was different, the other an animal lover whose voice indicated a nearly permanent grin on his face.
That didn't mean she trusted them however but it meant she was prepared to give them a chance. It would take quite a bit of time before they reached the level of trust and friendship she shared with Naruto.
Soon they were all finished with eating, which in Choji's case meant his money had run out. They payed their bills and politely said their goodbyes going their separate ways. Kakashi was happy that Midori had become more comfortable around her other classmates. He knew that if she passed tomorrow there was only a small chance she would wind up with Naruto although he would make sure she was on his team. She'd be likely to crawl into his backpack if he tried to leave the village without her not to mention the fact that she still had poor people skills.
When they arrived back home Midori went straight to her room and put on her pajamas. Kakashi knew that, although she was used to being physically tired, she wasn't used to being so emotionally worn out. So he tucked her in and they said their goodnights knowing that tomorrow would be the start of a whole new adventure.
