CHAPTER SIX
MELONIE'S POV

I woke up thinking today would be just like any other day; waking up, and going to work. But, boy, I was wrong about that.

~

I walked into Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital and took a left, heading for the residents' lounge, just as Callie was walking past me.

"Major trauma coming in, hurry up and get your scrubs on! Meet me on the roof!" she shouted, running through the hospital.

I ran into the residents' lounge, threw my scrubs on, and threw my hair into a ponytail, running out the door in record timing. I had no idea what the trauma was, but if Callie needed me, I was going to be there for her.

I ran onto the roof and had Callie tie my trauma gown, and I snapped my gloves on. Mer and Lexie ran out to meet us just as a helicopter was landing on the roof, and we ran to assess the situation.

   "Matt Kin, 22-year-old male-"

Before he could finish, the gurney accidentally hit me, sending me stumbling backward, and off of the roof of the building.

My life had flashed before my eyes. I was in shock. I didn't even have time to scream or be scared. All I heard were the sounds of Callie, Mer, and Lexie screaming my name.

   "NO! MELONIE!" Mer screamed.

Those were the last words I heard before my whole world turned black.

ALEX'S POV

I was walking through the halls of the hospital, heading toward the pediatric floor to work on some kids. I had never worked on peds, but that's the service that they put me on.

Suddenly, a Meredith, Lexie, and Callie ran by me with a gurney that had someone on it. They were all crying and had pure fear written on all of their faces. I ran with them and saw the person on the gurney. Melonie.

"What the hell happened?!" I screamed as we rolled Melonie into a room.

"She was accidentally pushed off the roof by a gurney," Mer cried.

"Oh my God." I ran my hands through my hair as I watched nurses hook Melonie up to machines. "Is she dead?"

"Somehow, she's still breathing," Callie said, astonished by the sound of Melonie's heartbeat and breathing.

"Does she have a pulse?" Lexie asked, her face wet with tears.

Callie checked her pulse and sighed of relief. "It's faint, but it's there."

"What happened?!" Derek ran into the room, running to Melonie's side.

Lexie filled him in as I sat outside of Mel's hospital room with my head in my hands. I never got to tell her. I never got to tell her how much she meant to me. I never got to tell her how her smile could light up the world. I never got to tell her how her laugh gave me butterflies. I never got to tell her that I love her. And, now, I might never get the chance to.

Meredith sat down next to me, her face shining from the tears rolling down her cheeks. She was calm for a second, then went back to sobbing hysterically. I held her in my arms.

"It's okay. She's going to be okay," I reassured her, not truly believing what I was saying, but I had to be strong for Mer. I mean, that's her sister.

A few hours later, I was sitting in the waiting room, since I didn't have anything I needed to do, waiting for news on Melonie. I was sitting with Lexie.
