The next day I am sore from my fall and feel heavy with the weight of him knowing now. Luckily since the Jacksons are coming over everyone is busy preparing. Lola and Justin are made to set up the table outside but I think Lola is doing most of the work as Justin hangs on my legs as I fed the animals and make sure they are locked away before getting the barbeque. I end up carrying him around since it is easier than half tripping over him as I help set up. My brain is preoccupied with preparing the meat while watching Justin as he 'helps' that I don't notice they have arrived until David and Spencer are standing right opposite me.
"Having Fun?" David asks as I look up with a grin. Barbeque sauce dripping down my shirt. Justin thinks it is hilarious. I quickly lift him down from the counter before heading to greet them.
"Lots." I say smiling as I man shake him before moving over to give Spencer a hug.
"Nahhah."He says backing away and pointing at my shirt "Not happening barbeque man." David chuckles bending down to chat with Justin as I advance on Spencer.
"Come on it is just a hug." I tease and he shakes his head warding me off with his hands.
"Cameron stop torturing poor Spencer. "Mark says heading into the kitchen with everyone else. I shrug as if I don't know what he is talking about and Spencer looks relieved that his shirt was saved from the barbecue sauce. Greeting everyone I head up to change. Spencer following me.
"What happened to your face?" He asks halfway up and I shrug.
"I fell yesterday in the rain, nothing big." As soon as we reach the room I am yanking my shirt off to which Spencer splutters at until he notices the bruise on my back from the fall.
"Damn must of been some fall." He says fingers dancing over my lower back. Goosebumps raise on my skin and I shrug spinning around so his hands are on my abs. He goes red and I smirk.
"See something you like?" I ask and he shakes his head rapidly. I chuckle "How about that hug now?" I ask opening my arms and after a slight hesitation he complies and falls into my arms. I smile into his apple smelling hair as I squeeze him tight. Loving how he fits into my arms perfectly. Arms coming to wrap around my back as he buries his face into my chest.
It lasts a few more seconds until I pull away and pull on a shirt, I smirk not having to say anything as the disappointment filters through his features. He meets my gaze going red. "Shut up." I follow him down the stairs laughing as he colours. He follows me to the barbecue, over his embarrassment as he chats to me about his extra practice and school. I love that he is comfortable to chat now. A month ago he wouldn't of.
"Hey Cameron, heads up!" Adam yells from across the yard where they are throwing around a ball. I smile catching the ball in my arms as I haul it back over to them. A perfect spiral making me smile. I practiced that one. "Damn, why aren't you on our team again?" Aaron asks and I shrug, turning back to flip the ribs.
"You know there is still time to join the football team." Spencer says sipping at the glass of juice he has. I shrug. "I mean play offs aren't till April."
I hope I am still here by then. "Why?" I ask him interested, leaning forward so our faces are close "You want a football boyfriend or something?"
He splutters at that and I chuckle, receiving a shove. "You aren't by boyfriend."
I raise my eyebrows at him and he shrugs as if he is only stating fact and not his feelings. "Great to know so you wouldn't mind if I said yes to Lucy for the Prom."
I watch the storm pass over his face and I laugh receiving another shove "Thought not."
"You haven't asked me." He says and I nod, confirming that but not saying anything. I am not doing that here now with everyone surrounding us.
"Well..." He says egging me on.
"Well what?" I ask playing dump he frowns and I sigh deciding to give him a break "When I ask you it will be special."I say flipping the meat "Not now but I do have the intention."
He colours "Okay." I smile happy that he isn't forcing the topic.
"Cam, come play!" I am surprised when Lola is the one shouting that and Mark and Mr Jackson come to take over shooing me to the football game. Spencer is forced into it as well and that is how we spend till lunch. Spencer is terrible. We are all laughing as we sit down for lunch. I sling my arm around the back of Spencer's chair and no one seems to bat an eyelash except for the small glare I get from the twins and pink cheeks from Spencer. I grin, happy. I didn't think anyone would have a problem with us. The Jacksons are not like that.
The doorbell rings as Millie is serving and Mark is cutting all the meat so I hop up to get it, chatting to David as I pull the door open. By the time I turn around I freeze. There stands Eddy. Hands in his jeans. Nervous expression on his face.
"Hi." I say and he replies the same. I don't know what else to say, do I invite him in? I am not some scorned teenager. I know he never knew. I know my mother well enough that he would have never known if I hadn't come to live here. And here he is standing on my porch.
"Sorry, am I interrupting lunch?" I glance back everyone is laughing at the table. I shrug, because he is but that doesn't mean I do not want to talk to him. "I just came to talk?" He runs a hand through his hair. "I-I never done this before. "He chuckles nervously "But I think I am your father."
"I think so too." I whisper and he nods.
"I didn't know Mace was pregnant when she left." He says with a sigh "I would have helped. I would have loved-"He sighs ringing his hands, before shoving his hand in front of him. "Hi Cameron, I am Edward Fuller but you can call me Eddy. I know this is weird but I would like to get to know you. If you would let me I would like to take you out to lunch tomorrow?"
I meet his hand shaking it "I would like that." I tell him quietly.
"Cam who is at the door?" Mark as coming to stand behind me, hand on my shoulder. His eyes widen as he spots Eddy. "Ed, hi."
Eddy nods at him in greeting "Sorry about disturbing I just wanted to speak to Cameron." Mark nods telling us to take our time before heading back into the house. "Can we meet at twelve?" He asks and I nod "Great, thanks. Sorry this is weird." He says reaching forward to squeeze my arm "See you then, Cameron."He tests the name on his tongue before waving and heading down the porch. I watch him get into a bright blue pickup. Feeling nervous and relieved all at once. My father wants to get to know me. The thought sends a spark of warmth down my chest.
