"Cameron, your bag!" Millie yells shoving my backpack into my hands. "Honestly why are you in such a hurry?" I shrug, thanking her and hurrying off to my truck. Today is Friday and Spencer is coming over to stay the night since we have rehearsals the whole of Saturday he is also heading to school early because his father is dropping him off before heading to some meeting out of town so I promised him that I would also be there early. Not to sound to eager or anything but I am looking forward to spending some alone time with him because since Wednesday we have been surrounded by friends who are happy about our new relationship status but up in our grill twenty four seven. Besides the farm has required more work than usual since mid winter is coming up and Spencer has been needed inside to help with the month end accounts and books he does. So really our very new relationship hasn't been spent much with each other. But I have planned a movie night for tonight so hopefully we can spend a few hours catching up.
The drive is slightly icy and I can tell that the first snows are fast approaching. Luckily I do not come from some warm climate and I am used to the cold. New York is freezing. The giant buildings seem to trap the cold as the freezing wind whistles through every gap and alley, searching for its next target. The school parking lot is only half full. I am sure anyone sane is hidden beneath their covers for another hour. The things you do for the people you like.
"Hey." I greet Spencer who jumps from his position reading on a beanbag in the library, yes the library is super cool like that. I grin when he glares.
"Ass."
"Good to see you too," I say plopping down next to him and watching as his cheeks colour when I lean over and grab his book. I think he suspected something else because he takes a few seconds to recover. He mutters another 'ass' under his breath.
"Hmmm." I say examining the cover "Going for the romantics are we."
"There is nothing romantic about -shut up." I smile in his direction, which seems to baffle him equally as much and I love it, the effect I have on him is so obvious and I wonder how he hid it so well before. I also wonder how I survived without smiling as much as I do now.
"You sure your aunt is fine with me staying over tonight?"
"Yes, she was happy." I say closing my eyes as I lean back " Although Lola might give you some trouble because of interrupted games night."
"I don't mind playing games-"I cut him off with a look and he grins sheepishly "She is already a tough nut to crack, I do not want to start of on a low note."
I chuckle at that because of the genuine concern in his voice "Don't worry in no time you are going to wish she never spoke to you because her insults for those people she likes are even more biting than her silence."
"Such cousin endorsement."
"I love the kid but she has serious issues." I say in defense not bothering to open my eyes, ready to fall back asleep. It is so comfortable here and warm. It is silent for a few moments and I assume he has gone back to reading but that evidently isn't the case when he brings up a subject I was kind of hoping he would so that I didn't seem forceful or something.
"Do you have an issue with people knowing, about us?" I shake my head, cracking an eye open to see his nervous fiddling. "Oh."
"Spence, I am pretty sure the people that matter already know." He nods but still remains quiet. Leaning over I tug at his fiddling hand. " But don't feel rushed, it is all up to you. I am willing to take it as slow as you want."
"Mmmh." Still holding his hand I close my eyes and lean back, intertwining our hands. "Did you have relationships in New York?"
I shrug "One, it was kind of informal since I didn't have much time but yes."
"Guy?"
"Yes," I smile at him opening my eyes. That green monster of his is showing again "His name was Jake and he was one of the football players which worked well because he was in the closest and I was busy so we only saw each other for hookups when we both had time."
"Oh, I have never you know..."
"I know."
"It doesn't bother you?"
"Should it?" I ask sitting up and forgetting about the idea of sleeping, clearly Spencer has a lot on his mind and like a good boyfriend I can listen or at least try to. He shrugs and I grin, leaning closer. "Well I am not, With Jake it was fleeting and nice but I wasn't attached, I didn't really care that he would never be ready to come out or if he felt shit." I sigh, I know I sound like an asshole. "But with you I am willing to move at your pace, I can wait because as much as I would like to take our relationship further because I am wildly attracted to you I understand that you need time and I am okay with that. More than okay because spending time with you for now is enough."
I think his new colour is maroon and it is a cute look on cool and confident Spencer Rue. "Although I might have to ask for one thing."
"What?" He asks almost breathless and I grin, leaning closer since no one is in the library, taking his lips in a gentle kiss I grin.
"A few more of those." He nods and then seems to realise what he agreed to and buries his face into the beanbag behind him.
"We will be okay Spence." I say, reaching over and rubbing his back in a comforting manner. Hoping I sound as convincing to him as I want to. I really like him and I do not want to mess this up so hopefully that counts for something.
