"who was that?" Aunt Millie asks as I take a seat at the table.
"Eddy." I say loud enough for the whole table to hear. "He wants to take me out to lunch tomorrow." All the adults nodd, everyone else seems lost as I look at my plate which is piled high.
"That is nice of him,"Mrs Jackson says and my aunt nods in agreement. I guess so. The whole thing is a little weird personally but I will take what I can get. The rest of lunch is filled with the twins telling us all about the courses they are taking next year. They took a year off but now they are heading to University, Adam studying Engineering and Aaron Musical theatre. Surprisingly Kelly and Lola get on quite well and by that I mean Kelly does all the talking and Lola listens. Match made in heaven. Justin being the baby gets all the attention for being cute. Particularly when he wedges himself on my lap for dessert.
"Who is Eddy?" Spencer asks as we load the dishwasher and clean the kitchen.
"My father."I say with a sigh "I bumped into him yesterday."I show him my face as an explanation. "He found out about me then. Joined the dots I guess."
"Oh,"Spencer frowns as if trying to digest this and I admit it is a lot to digest. "Wait, doesn't that mean you have siblings?" I nod and he smiles at me. I grin back.
"You know coming here has been one hell of an adventure." I say as I lean against the counter he copies me. "I mean have have more friends now than I have had my whole life and I don't live my life guided by fear. I like the feeling. "
He rests his head on my shoulder "and now you met your father."
"Yes, crazy. You know I was named after him. I knew my first name was my grandfathers but I couldn't figure out where Edward came from."
"Cameron Edward, suits you." I smile drawing him closer. Even if my whole future is uncertain things seem to be going alright.

Lunch is awkward. Eddy tells me a bit about himself before asking questions. He invites me to meet his family and I agree. Mostly I let him talk and I can tell he is trying his best to make the experience as comfortable as possible but it is always a shock finding out you have a son from a high school relationship. A toxic one at that. I tell him my mother is in rehab and he says sorry. He told his wife about me and she wants to meet me properly. Apparently the kids are excited to meet me as well. He says we will go at my pace but he wants to make up for lost time. Saying that he is sorry he wasn't able to be there for me through my childhood.
I arrive home feeling at peace with how things are turning out. The lounge is lit up and I grin as I enter to see everyone getting ready to play a game of monopoly.
"Yay, Cammy can be on my team!"Justin says running to my legs. Lola pouts.
"No fair, Cameron cheats." My jaw drops in shock as I throw a pillow at her.
"No I do not." I say "You are just terrible." I get a tongue for that and Mark laughs saying that we should begin. The rest of the evening everyone falls into a comfortable routine of laughing. Lola really is warming up to me. So much so that she agrees to let me drive her to some party she was invited to tomorrow. I read Justin a story before heading upstairs to call Spencer, something I have been doing almost every evening now.
He asks about the lunch and I tell him before he says that he spent the day trying to teach Kelly maths that she was struggling with. Somehow the conversation switches to french as we both test our language skills on each other. When my aunt walks in with laundry she raises her eyebrows as I chatter away in french. She knew I was taking french but not that I was fluent in it. I had a lot of time on my hands back home so I watched french shows and read french books. I am fluent in French and Spanish and speak a little German but not really dedicated to it. I tell Spencer I have to go as Millie looks like she wants to talk to me.
"Was that Spencer?" I nod and she smiles"He seems really nice, anyways the reason I wanted to talk to you is your mom phoned me. "
I raise my eyebrows "She wanted to talk about you going back to New York I told her that we are leaving it up to you but it might be better to finish Senior year in one place." I nod knowing I want to stay "I invited her to come and stay here when she is released but she didn't like that idea."
"No,"I say remembering having a similar conversation how she is not returning to this god forsaken town. "She didn't want to."I sigh as she rests her hand on my arm.
"I am sure everything will work out, anyways she isn't due out till end of January so we have time to come up with a plan. How was lunch today?"
"Alright, a bit weird but I guess he is trying, he wants me to meet his family."
"You feel ready for that?" She asks and I shrug.
"I think, everything is happening so fast I hardly feel like I can take a breath but with Eddy I lost so much time. I have two younger siblings." I say running a hand through my hair " I always wanted siblings, and now I found out the whole time I have had and I never knew. I feel like I lost so much all of a sudden and I want to not have to take more time to decide if I am ready. I am ready and if I keep telling myself that then I will be ready."
"Oh. Cameron. you have such a capacity to love, despite everything you are so kind and caring but that doesn't mean you have to force yourself to be ready before you are. Of course it isn't going to come easy and Eddy is a good guy so even if you wanted to take your time I am sure he would support you. "
I smile nodding "Thanks, I was wondering if I could use your car on Saturday?" I ask since she has a nice pickup sudan that doesn't sound like a rusty dying machine.
"Sure, why?"
"I wanted to take someone out." I say trying to cool my cheeks as she grins.
"And who might that be?" She asks before holding up her hand "Let me guess start with a S and speaks French."
"Maybe."
She chuckles ruffling my hair and kissing my forehead "Well you can take the car and have fun."
"Thanks."She smiles bidding me goodnight as she leaves me. I fall asleep happy and restful.
