Heart To Heart

It was early in the morning and Keith was walking by the mechanics room of the Garrison, when he heard Hunk throw a tool across the room in anger.

"Woah, is everything okay in here?" asked Keith, entering the room.

"Yeah..." said Hunk, sounding very hurt.

"Look, I'm not really good at talking with people and I don't expect you to open up to me but- if there's every anything on your mind -"

"This situation stinks!" said Hunk, angrily hitting the work table. "I can't believe we finally get back to Earth and its taken over by Galra!"

"I guess there is something on your mind." said Keith, approaching.

"I know is stupid, but I use to daydream about coming home to peaceful Earth. And that would have been great. But I realized that nothing - nothing would have been greater than seeing my family."  said Hunk.  "But I can't - and I don't even know if they're okay!  And I see Pidge and Lance with their families, and I mean, I'm really happy for them, but I just... it makes me miss my family more. I've never felt so alone and scared."

"Look, Hunk, I never told you this but... of all the paladins, you're the one I'm most impressed by. Its no secret that you've always been the most scared but you've never backed down." said Keith. "And to be brave is to go on in spite of fear, and that's who you are Hunk."

Hunk smiled and said:

"You're starting to sound a lot like Kanna."

Keith smiled awkwardly.

"Yeah, I guess she's starting to rub off on me." he responded.

Hunk then tackled Keith into a hug.

"Oh, okay. I guess we're hugging." said Keith, smiling.

"Thank you, Keith. I have to go."

"What? Where?"

"I'm gonna go get my family." responded Hunk, determined.

Keith looked surprised for a split second, but then he nodded and said:

"Not without me."

Hunk smiled in gratitude.

"We're coming too." said two voices coming from the door.

When Keith and Hunk turned around, they saw Kanna and Lance standing at the doorway.

Hunk smiled at his friends.

"Thanks guys." he said, humbly.

When the four paladins arrived at the Garrison's exit however, they found officer James Griffin, one of the Garrison's pilots, standing guard.

"What do you think you're doing?" he asked the paladins, in a stern voice.

"Look Griffin, we don't want to fight. But we are going out there, whether you like it or not." said Keith.

"I figured this would happen. I'm sorry, but I can't let the planet's only hope go out there and get captured or killed." said James.

Before the paladins could respond, he continued.

"...which is why I'm coming with you. I know the Galra patrol routes and I can try to keep you out of trouble."

The paladins smiled and nodded, then left the Garrison accompanied by officer Griffin.

The team exited into the ruins of what was once Platte City.

"Where are they keeping the prisoners?" asked Hunk.
