If you remembered what I said last chapter, you will know that I said that every other chapter would be in River's perspective, but last chapter it was Winters, now it is going to be River, I'm just explaining this so that no one gets confused. -Deadrosepetal

I looked around me, the darkness of the night, I feared for my life that I would die once my uncle would lay eyes on me.
Suddenly the guards raced away from the palace with me and took me to a nearby cottage and knocked on the door. An old woman answered and looked down at me and back up at the guards. Is this her?" The old elf asked and the guards nodded.
I was too afraid to ask what was going to happen or what was going on, or who was this woman, every word was stuck in my throat, slowly suffocating me.
What is the cost of bringing her to me?" The elf asked.
We want no reward, this girl is kind and deserves to be safe, it's the least we could do in Queen Tera's honor." One of the guards answered.
Now we must pay our respects by making sure that River is alive, it's what Tera would want, and if only she could be alive now to stop Winter." The other guard said.
Wait, what happened to our great elven Queen?" The old woman asked and both guards looked at the ground sadly.
Our majesty had been murdered by her own sister, earlier this morning, King Winter says that Poppy sent a messenger to Winter and he was informed that his wife had been killed but, he only laughed." The guard explained.
The old elf looked at me sadly and then laid her hand gently on my shoulder. "I'm sorry for your loss, Princess River, your mother was a great woman."
I kept my mouth closed tightly, like a lock on a sealed chest. The guards let go of me and the woman turned me around to face them, her hands gripping onto my shoulders reassuring me that everything would be alright.
River, we will come back every week to check that you are still safe and healthy, we will also take gold coins from the palace so that you can buy whatever you need." One of the guards explained and I slightly nodded.
The two guards left in a hurry and the old elf took me inside the small little cottage.
I could smell fish cooking and I scrunched up my nose in disgust. I hadn't eaten fish since my parents had been killed at I had ran away. Was it weird that I didn't like fish even thought it was supposed to be my favourite food? The old woman looked at me and smiled from the kitchen. "So you're the River I've been hearing about." She said. "I'm joking, I know that you're the young princess who was said to have died in a terrible accident."
A fake accident, my uncle was going to kill me for the throne." I mumbled.
Why would you think that?" She asked.
He said so in the hall when I was going to sleep, then I heard him say that he would come into my room while I was asleep, and then he would kill me." I explained.
And his did this all for the throne?" She asked.
Yes." I answered.
Interesting, and what happened to you? How did you end up being the Elemental Queen's daughter?" The old elf asked.
I ran away after I heard what my uncle would do, I traded in my necklace for a ride out of this kingdom and, the elf took my necklace and laughed. He said that I was a trouble maker and left, I didn't get the ride I needed so I ran out of the kingdom, it was old and I wasn't prepared. On my way through the forest I found a road, so then I started making my way down it, when I heard a horse." I explained. "I hid in the bushes when I saw that there was an elf riding it and she had seen me and I was caught."
What did she do?" She asked.
She helped me up and tried to keep me warm because I could have died out there, and then she took me to the palace, and I told her my story, so later she adopted me." I answered.
She must have been a great mother." The woman said and I nodded. "You're probably wondering what my name is, well, my name is Indigo, but you know me as Gram."
What do you mean?" I asked.
I'm your real mother's mother, I am the only one who wasn't killed because I am just too old to rule the kingdom so I was not a threat." She explained. "I am sorry I did not find you sooner dear."
Why do I not recognize you?" I asked.
You met me a few years before you ran away, and I didn't live in the palace, so I didn't visit much." The elf explained.
Will my uncle find out that I'm staying here with you?" I asked.
Fortunately, yes. He's coming to visit tomorrow morning." She answered.
Will he kill me?" I asked.
No, he wont kill you if I'm watching or awake and where you are, just stay close to me and nothing bad will happen to you." She answered and I nodded. "By the way, your bedroom is the first door down that hall, the next door is my room."
Thank you." I said and she smiled.
You need some rest, I can't imagine how tired you are and how upset you must be." My gram said as she pushed me towards my bedroom door. "Get some rest, it will be a long day tomorrow."
As she shut my door with me inside I couldn't help but wonder if she was just locking me in so that I couldn't escape or that I'd think that I was safe and then, when my uncle would come, I would be killed.
As I laid there in my bed, my eyes were wide open, and I had no intention of sleeping, all I wanted to do was leave and go somewhere that was safe, I didn't want to be somewhere where I had a chance at death, but, being here was probably safer than being with a dangerous king that laughed at my adoptive mothers death. Finally I started falling asleep when I reassured myself that I was in a safe place and that I was going to live a full and happy life, with my Grammy...
