Flamepool looked around at the various cats, counting tails. He let out a sigh of relief, and glanced over at Duskfern. "Innocent. You're voted innocent," he declared. The cats looked around, frightened. The murderer was still among them. They had to be. Whoever had murdered Sorrelpaw wasn't done with OakClan yet. There was still more to come.
Brindlebreeze sniffed the small flower at the base of the tree, thinking about Antpaw. He was so upset, and she needed to do something for him. Maybe Brambleshade had been wrong, maybe it wasn't too late! She sprinted back to camp, frantic. It had barely been any time at all, she could do it, she knew she could! She ran into the medicine cat den, where Sorrelpaw's body was laying for burial preparations. She quickly grabbed her herbs, wiping away the foam and clearing the berries out of Sorrelpaw's throat. She pumped her paws on Sorrelpaw's chest, and when she was about to give up, a loud gasp was heard.
"B-Brindlebreeze?" Sorrelpaw asked, voice hoarse. The she-cat let out a cry of joy, burying her nose in her younger sister's fur.
"She's alive! Sorrelpaw's alive!" she yowled. The rest of the clan ran towards the entrance to the den, crowding it.
"Sorrelpaw!" Antpaw squeaked, leaping onto his sister. He buried his face in her fur, on the verge of tears. "You're alive!" The rest of the cats crowded around her, all voicing their joy. But one cat wasn't as excited as they seemed. One cat was a liar.Brindlebreeze heard the paw steps behind her, and let out a sigh.
"So, you're here to kill me then? I won't fight. I took an oath to save lives, not take them. That's why I came out here. So you wouldn't kill any of the others," she admitted. The medicine cat looked out across the trees, watching the birds chirping and flying around. She had also chosen this spot for the view. She wanted the beauty of the forest to be the last thing she would see, not the dark ceiling of her den.
"You shouldn't have revived her. I killed her for a reason. But I suppose your death will suffice," the cat told her. Brindlebreeze's eyes widened as she recognized the voice.
"It's you? Out of all the cats, it's you?" she asked. The cat pounced, pinning Brindlebreeze to the ground and biting the back of her neck. There was a crunch, and the medicine cat's lifeless body went limp. The murderer backed away, turning to look back at the camp.
"All for you, my love. Soon, the pesky little clan won't be in the way anymore. Then, it'll just be you and me," they murmured."Brindlebreeze! No!" Duskfern yowled, running into the camp. The rest of the clan looked up at her, full of sorrow. "Who did this?" she asked, choking, "Who found her?".
"It was me, I'm sorry," Antpaw squeaked, looking down at his paws. "It was too late. The murderer broke her neck". Duskfern's eyes hardened, and the normally calm cat drew closer to her son.
"You found her? In the middle of the woods, on accident? More like you murdered her!" she snarled. Sorrelpaw's eyes widened, and she went in to defend her brother.
"Antpaw is Brindlebreeze's brother! He wouldn't do this!" She meowed incredulously. Flamepool went to stand by his mate, looking down at her.
"First you, now Brindlebreeze. Antpaw has always been the weakest of you three. Maybe he was jealous . . ." the tom suggested. Antpaw looked shocked.
"Antpaw would never do this!" Finchwing meowed angrily, defending her apprentice, "I don't believe it!"
"Maybe that's why you haven't been attacked yet," Patchpelt pointed out. "Antpaw thinks you're the best cat ever. And for some reason, neither you nor your brother have been attacked yet".
"Come on, he's just an apprentice!" Dovecloud argued, standing up. "He's only 6 moons old!"
"Come on, stop it! All of you, stop it!" Brambleshade pleaded. "Can't you see what this is doing to us?!" Duskfern glared at him, then stood up straight.
"All in favor of exiling Antpaw, raise their tails," she spat.Murdered: Brindlebreeze
