Observant watched the herd of gazelles graze, unaware of the group of lionesses preparing to hunt them. She turned back to the group of females, and with a motion of her tail, they began to creep forward.
Persistence and Intuition weren't a part of the hunt, as they were currently taking care of the cubs. It was quite a loss, as Persistence was the best hunter in the Pride. Diligence had stayed behind too, just in case they needed any help. Courage, Powerful, and Clever were circling around as well. They watched for any other predators or males, and didn't take part in the hunt.
Rational and Sense began to silently circle around the herd, signaling to each other with ear and tail flicks. The two lionesses worked best as a team, especially as flankers. They would chase the gazelle towards the other lionesses, who would ambush them. Passion was another flanker, there to back up Rational and Sense.
Resilient, Observant, Reliable, Resourceful, Practical, and Ambition would be the ones who killed the gazelles. They sometimes worked in pairs, but with Intuition and Persistence back at camp, they would be hunting separately. This made it easy for the lionesses to lose track of each other.
Suddenly, with one final signal, Rational and Sense leapt out from the tall grass. Passion followed soon after, and the three females dashed towards the gazelles.
The prey animals' heads shot up, and they dashed towards the group of lionesses that had circled them. For some reason, the group was extremely close to the cub den today. This resulted in the male lions coming in to help.
A storm of claws and blood ensued. The lions lost track of each other, until the rest of the gazelles escaped and the others fell to the ground dead. Intuition had come out of the cub den and killed a gazelle about to run over it, while Resilient and Practical had both also killed one. But the reward was not as high as the cost.
Powerful lay dead on the ground, neck cleanly cut open. Ambition was dead as well, collapsed next to one of the gazelles. Similar marks were scored down her neck. Passion let out a cry, and rushed over to her sister.
"Who did this?" she hissed, clawing at the ground. She looked at the Pride's claws, but almost all of them were covered in blood. Too many for just the murderers.
Practical looked cautiously at the other lionesses, then lifted her head and met Courage's gaze. She flicked her tail at Powerful and Ambition. "They were mates, we all knew it. Maybe this was a power play, and someone didn't like his brother breaking the rules?" Courage snarled, and Practical looked back down.
"I am the King here, Practical! You will not question my authority!" he growled. Then he sat down, head held high. "But I will have you know, that I didn't kill anyone".
"But what about Persistence? As your mate, she would be willing to kill a rule-breaker for you," Resourceful pointed out. Courage slammed his paw down, and glared at her.
"No! Persistence did not do anything either!" Courage spat. Resourceful looked away, unwilling to argue with him. Reliable meekly jumped on top of a rock, ears pinned back.
"Well, I think that maybe we should have a vote. If Courage and Persistence are voted guilty, we exile them," she suggested. Courage growled again, but the lionesses seemed to agree. There was nothing he could do about it.
