Azaleawing counted the votes, and before any of the other cats could say anything, leapt up with her fur bristling. "No! You know what? I won't be exiled, I'm leaving! And guess what? I'm your medicine cat apprentice! So good day!" The angry black she-cat stormed out of camp, not giving anyone the chance to speak.
The cats turned to Orchidwhisker, who let out a disappointed sigh and looked at them with scorn. "Hmm. I thought I would have lasted longer. Pity," he mewed. Daisyshine looked at him with shock, drawing back.
"Orchidwhisker? You really are a murderer? You killed Petuniapaw?" the white she-cat demanded. Orchidwhisker laughed, as though she was a kit who had said something funny.
"Of course not! I killed Yarrowstrike and Tansypaw. But you wouldn't even consider the idea, would you? You were a perfect kit, just like Petuniapaw. Well guess what? I suggested that my partner kill her," he spat. Lavendercloud walked forward and clawed across his face, immediately drawing blood.
"You're not my son," she hissed, and continued to attack him. Orchidwhisker went to fight back, but was immediately tackled by Sagepool, his father.
"I will not let you attack my mate, or any other cat in this clan" Sagepool told Orchidwhisker calmly. Then he stepped aside, and motioned to Rosefern. "Rosefern, unless anyone objects, feel free to kill him". When no cat voiced any disapproval, Rosefern struck, with the anger of a cat who had lost her father, brother, and apprentice. Orchidwhisker's throat was cleanly sliced open. He collapsed to the ground. The clan watched as he bled out, emotionless.
"Well, I think that we should have some cats go and bury the bodies," Iristuft suggested. She motioned to Lupinepaw, who was still in shock at the death of his friends. "Lupinepaw should have a new mentor. I suggest Sagepool". Sagepool and Lupinepaw both nodded, and the cats split up to bury the dead.

Once the cats were buried, the cats all wandered around the forest to collect flowers. The clan custom was to place the flowers on the graves of the dead cats, so the graves would be as bright as the cats had been. Orchidwhisker's grave would be covered in rocks.
Lilytail went to collect carnations, Yarrowstrike's favorite flower. Carnationflight had been his mate, before she died. He had always liked the flower because of her.
Lilytail pulled some blossoms off of a bush, trying to make sure they weren't damaged. Then the murderer dropped down on top of her. Her neck broke, and she was dead without a single sound.
Daffodilsong was the one who found her. He had figured that Lilytail had picked more flowers than she could carry, and had gone to help her. But instead, he saw his mother lying dead on the forest floor. He yowled for help, panicked and holding back choked sobs. The clan all came to the spot where she had died.
"She will be remembered," Asterheart declared, head hanging mournfully. The cats all nodded, sad to see the kind, old she-cat dead. At least she could be with her mate now.
"Who could have done this?" Marigoldleap asked, clearly heartbroken. Daisyshine went over to comfort him.
"It was Sagepool. Two cats have been ambushed. He's the smartest out of all of us. He could definitely set up ambushes," Violetfrost declared. Rosefern bristled, glaring at the black she-cat.
"As if the loss of his kit wasn't enough, you have to go accuse him of murdering her?" she spat. Sagepool stepped forward, calm.
"It's okay, Rosefern. I'll handle this," he mewed to her. Then he turned back to Violetfrost. "I'm the leader, actually. So you see, I'm not the murderer. But yes, we'll have a vote for me. I believe in democracy". So the vote resumed, with the knowledge that Sagepool was actually Sagestar.
